Impact of a Finnish reform adding new sickness absence checkpoints on rehabilitation and labor market outcomes: an interrupted time series analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The introduction of new sickness absence checkpoints was associated with an increase in participation in rehabilitation but did not affect labor market outcomes one year later. The reform thus was only partially successful in achieving its objectives. Future research should focus on identifying the most effective approaches for utilizing rehabilitation to enhance labor market participation after sickness absence.PMID:37778000 | DOI:10.5271/sjweh.4122 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health)

Work Participation after Multimodal Rehabilitation due to Cardiovascular Diseases - Representative Analyses using Routine Data of the German Pension Insurance
CONCLUSION: For the first time, representative data on occupational participation following rehabilitation on behalf of the GPI are available for the disease groups considered. The analyses underline the need to focus on occupational perspectives already in medical rehabilitation or directly thereafter.PMID:37709287 | DOI:10.1055/a-2133-2552 (Source: Die Rehabilitation)

Labor market affiliation of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms: a population-based matched cohort study
CONCLUSION: Overall, we found that Danish patients with essential thrombocythemia, polycythemia vera, myelofibrosis, and unclassifiable MPN had slightly impaired labor market affiliation compared with a population of the same age and sex. From two years pre-diagnosis to two years post-diagnosis, we observed a larger reduction in the proportion of patients with MPN working and a greater proportion receiving sickness benefits compared with matched individuals.PMID:37656802 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2251670 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Life After Retirement: Exploring the Survival Strategies of SSNIT Pensioners in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana
In this study, the survival strategies adopted by SSNIT pensioners to assuage the challenges they encounter, mainly due to inadequate pensions were explored. The mixed-methods research design was employed to gather data from 437 respondents. Whereas the quantitative findings were analyzed via the Stata software, the framework approach was adopted to analyze the qualitative data. The majority (78.7%) of the pensioners indicated that their pensions were insufficient to meet their needs. In their quest to address the challenge s confronting them, the pensioners either adopted survival strategies they considered suitable or re...
