The impact of cardiorespiratory fitness and physical workload on disability pension –a cohort study of Swedish men
ConclusionBoth low cardiorespiratory fitness in youth and later exposure to high physical workload were associated with an increased risk of DP, where workers with the combination of both low cardiorespiratory fitness and a high physical workload had the highest risks (all-cause and MSD DP). Characteristics and long-term prognosis of Danish residents with a positive intrathecal antibody index test for herpes simplex virus or varicella-zoster virus compared with individuals with a positive cerebrospinal fluid PCR: A nationwide cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: AI-positive individuals differ from PCR-positive individuals in several aspects. AI appears unspecific for current CNS infections.PMID:37967615 | DOI:10.1016/j.cmi.2023.11.004 (Source: Herpes)

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 7040: Exploring the Lived Experiences of Vulnerable Females from a Low-Resource Setting during the COVID-19 Pandemic
This study explores the lived experiences of elderly women in a vulnerable community in Durban, South Africa. A face-to-face, in-depth qualitative approach was implemented to interview 12 women aged 50 years and over. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. The findings suggest that social interactions, the effect of a high death rate, and financial strain predominantly affect stress and anxiety levels. Despite the women being in receipt of pensions and/or other grants, their supplementary income was reduced. This, together with the additional expenses incurred during the lockdown, resulted in anxiety over finances...

Medical cost of environmental pollution: evidence from the Chinese Social Survey
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Nov 8. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-30459-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEnvironmental pollution impairs residents' health, while the pursuit of health is highly correlated to medical costs. Understanding how environmental pollution affects medical costs is closely linked to the welfare of society. Based on theoretical analysis, this paper uses data from 5112 households of the Chinese Social Survey (CSS) in 2019, constructs a composite indicator to quantify environmental pollution using respondents' evaluations, and empirically investigates the causal effect of environmental pollution on house...

Insured Persons with High and Moderate Risk of Reduced Earning Capacity - Identification, Analysis of the Use of a Counselling Service and Illustration of their Health and Occupational Situation
CONCLUSION: The question arises as to how insured persons with prognostically limited participation can be better reached with offers of assistance. The goal of early offer of support services is confronted with the problem that delays occur in the application of the routine data of the DRV and thus of the RI-EMR. Future studies should investigate how to improve insured persons' participation in counselling services and also their motivation to return to work.PMID:37923306 | DOI:10.1055/a-2157-2368 (Source: Die Rehabilitation)
