Evaluation of an Innovative Case Management Strategy to Improve Rehabilitation Coverage for People at High Risk of Permanent Work Disability: a Feasibility Study
CONCLUSION: The risk score offers an opportunity to screen for people with a high risk of permanent work disability. Case management participants found participation worthwhile and were significantly better informed about participation services after completing case management. More than every second participant received medical or vocational rehabilitation.PMID:37890509 | DOI:10.1055/a-2158-3212 (Source: Die Rehabilitation)

Employment status at time of lung cancer diagnosis: A nationwide study 1994-2018
Conclusions: Lung cancer patients were more likely to be unemployed, on disability pension or on early retirement. This information is of great importance when aiming specific interventions to prevent lung cancer and promote early detection. If a lung cancer screening program is planned these groups should receive particular attention in the recruitment strategy. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Physical exposures in the work environment during pregnancy – a challenge for risk assessment
Pregnant women have been preforming work-related activities during pregnancy since time immemorial, from the traditional hunter-gatherer or forager society to today’s modern world. But ever since our society has been industrialized, exposure patterns for pregnant women have changed dramatically, and they keep changing. The Cost-Benefit of Aging: Financial Capability and Well-Being across Age Groups in Brazil
This study aimed to analyze the financial preparedness of different age groups for retirement in Brazil. Data were derived from a survey to empirically validate the proposed relationships between preparedness for retirement and resilience for the future (financial well-being (FWB) outcomes) on the one hand and among demographic and socioeconomic aspects, behaviors and attitudes, knowledge and experience, and "key" psychological factors on the other hand. The sample consisted of 412 individuals aged between 22 and 79 years. FWB was measured using the financial capability and well-being model and regressed on a number of soc...

Senate hearing goes smoothly for Biden ’s pick for NIH director
A Senate hearing today to consider the nomination of Monica Bertagnolli to lead the National Institutes of Health (NIH) went well for the cancer surgeon. Committee Chair Bernie Sanders (I–VT) grilled Bertagnolli about NIH’s role in controlling drug prices, and Republican members pressed her on politically sensitive research. But the overall tone was friendly and suggested no major obstacles to her confirmation. The 2-hour hearing also offered a look at Bertagnolli’s priorities if she takes the helm at NIH. Citing her experiences as a cancer doctor and researcher who grew up on a Wyoming ranch, she emp...

Intergenerational reciprocity and WHO function ability domains predict loneliness in older Chinese adults
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, functional abilities of meeting basic needs, making decisions, being mobile and contributing to the support of adult children and society were protective factors for experiencing loneliness in late life. We need to rethink interventions for addressing loneliness in the context of healthy ageing and specific cultural values, taking into account not only providing services to older adults but also supporting them to gain values by contributing to society.PMID:37845812 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13250 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)
