Pancytopenia following adjuvant therapy with interferon-gamma in a patient with disseminated nocardiosis
We report a case of pancytopenia following treatment with recombinant interferon-gamma (IFN- γ) in a patient with disseminated nocardiosis. A 78-year-old woman presented with non-specific symptoms of general weakness, cough, fever, right-hand paresis, unsteady gait, and vision deterioration. Her medical record revealed multiple allergic reactions, notably to salicylates (including aspirin) , histamines, penicillin, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, bisoprolol, and iodide. She reported having Henoch–Schönlein purpura, asthma, and arterial hypertension. (Source: International Journal of Infectious Diseases)

The Syphilis Pandemic Prior to Penicillin: Origin, Health Issues, Cultural Representation and Ethical Challenges
Acta Derm Venereol. 2024 Mar 4;104:adv34879. doi: 10.2340/actadv.v104.34879.ABSTRACTSyphilis is currently a treatable disease, with a low incidence in most developed countries, although the prevalence has increased recently, especially among men-who-have-sex-with-men. In many of the least developed countries, however, syphilis is still a major health problem, although the problem is not comparable to the desperate situation worldwide less than 80 years ago. At that time, and for many centuries previously, syphilis dramatically affected the lives and health of individuals and threatened the well-being of many societies. Thi...

Investigation of proapoptotic and cytotoxic effects of 2-aminobenzothiazole on human laryngeal carcinoma cells
CONCLUSIONS: Based on all study findings, 2-aminobenzothiazole has cytotoxicity on human laryngeal carcinoma cells in a dose and time-dependent manner. That means that it decreased viability via inducing caspase-dependent apoptosis. Consequently, it was concluded that 2-aminobenzothiazole has good potential to lead to cytotoxicity and apoptosis on human laryngeal carcinoma cells and, after deeper in vitro and in vivo investigations, can be a good candidate for designing anticancer drugs with high efficiency.PMID:38436191 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202402_35487 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)
