Partnership / AMC / Academics
I will be graduating in the next year with a cardiac fellowship. Current offers on the table include an Academic position (350,000), a 2.5 year partnership position in a Tier 3 midsouth town (360K) with no buy-in, and a 2 year til equity (340K) position in a Tier 1 southern town. What are the differences between the two "private" jobs? My impression is that one is truly private with a board and all partners share equally once made partner. All partners have the same voting rights. The... Partnership / AMC / Academics (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best negotiating method
Long time listener, first time caller. I would like your input on which is the best manner to negotiate a job offer for the period of time prior to partnership. 1) Percent of net collections 2) Percent of total collections 3) RVU 1. The downside of net collections is that if the employer runs a high overhead rate then I am essentially paying for that with my portion. Also, there is some fudge factor in the overhead is calculated. 2. The downside of total collections I see here is... Best negotiating method (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Rad onc vs. Med onc salaries
What salaries are graduating rad oncs getting vs. graduating med oncs? I understand there were cuts to drug reimbursement for chemo, has this cut down medical oncology's reimbursement significantly? In which field is small group practice and partnership more feasible? What can I expect to make in either field 10 years in? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

BSMD vs. Traditional Route
I have just graduated from my senior year of high school and wanted to get some input regarding my college decision. Right now I’m deciding between a major in Neuroscience at Texas A&M and a 3+4 BS/MD track in Ohio at Youngstown State University (YSU) in partnership with NEOMED. I’m fully basing this decision off of a non-social point of view meaning distance, friends, weather, and all of that doesn’t have an effect on my decision. I’m stuck at a point where I see both directions have an... BSMD vs. Traditional Route (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private practice pay structure
How does the pay structure of a private practice usually work? A job I recently interviewed at said it’s 1099, salary is 425 and stays there. They stated that is how the group is structured and there’s no real partnership, or any increase in salary or bonus in the future. I assume this means they are just taking advantage of the new hires/non partners then right? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is going private practice a bad decision given the upcoming payment model changes?
Hello everyone, I don't post much but was curious about everyone's thoughts about the practice realm given the impending payment model changes. I have two job offers in an ideal area for me with an academic satellite or a private practice standalone (with multiple centers). The compensation with the private group is far more in addition to potential partnership in a few years but I worry about how the payment model will ultimately impact small groups versus a bigger center. If it wasn't for... Is going private practice a bad decision given the upcoming payment model changes? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
