Challenge to Dr Russo: Economics of Hospital Employment vs Private Practice for New Grads/Transitioning Physicians
Dr Russo Let me go into the economics of HOPD employment vs "Private Practice" now from a purely compensation perspective in many cases: 1) HOPD starts physician at 450-500K for first 2-3 years. Private Practice has "3 year partnership" starting the physician at 250-300K or so per year. (Gradient: 500k-275K *3= 675K). So you are essentially starting 700K in the red just signing with the private practice. Good luck partnering in an increasingly costly "mill" practice that is losing docs... Opportunities in Colorado?
FYI. Heard yesterday that USAP is exiting a number of Centura Health and HCA hospital contracts in Denver pending a USAP Colorado partner vote. Can’t recruit enough to cover the losses of those leaving USAP and the finances are upside down. Those of you wiling to relocate have a chance to set up your own practices or in partnership with others. Something frequently discussed in this forum. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dallas
We are hiring both partner track docs and day docs. There is not lots of driving around which is very common with some other groups in dallas. Partner track candidates should be comfortable with big cases- heart fellowship only necessary if you want to do hearts- general candidates should have some level one trauma experience. Day docs are usually not assigned to high acuity cases. Partnership is fair- no associate takes more call than partners- and very lucrative. Day doc position... Partnership negotiation
I have been working for my current practice for two years and ready to negotiate partnership. Our practice is multi specialty, has PCP, urgent care etc. so it is complicated... My Qs: - what office collection% to ask? - what ASC facility fee% is appropriate to ask? - Should I ask for certain percentage of ownership for the pain clinic itself? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Evaluating An Anesthesia Practice Checklist
This checklist is old but still relevant. I am posting since residents don't get much guidance in what to look for in an anesthesia practice. Worst Jobs-Biggest Rip Offs
We tend to mention good jobs-but with inflation, housing, interest rates, debt-what are the biggest rip off/scheme jobs out there? I know USAP Austin/Central was mentioned as having a very low salary, long partnership, and stock purchase in a city with a crazy high cost of living. I saw NAPA in Virginia was bad for similar reasons Who else? Where should people see warning signs? Help folks looking for jobs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Wayne State vs West Virginia School of Medicine (PLEASE HELP! Must decide by May 31)
West Virginia SOM Pros beautiful location, seems like happy people and a peaceful town. I'm not really a city girl anyways large neuroscience institute, seems good for me as that is a big area of interest administration seems like they take really good care of everyone, especially in the transition. Great partnership with Ruby, I'd be in the same location all 4 years of school. Cons lack of diversity not ranked very high? Wayne State University SOM Pros... Cold Calling/Emailing Practices
Senior resident starting discussions with some practices. Looking tor a partnership track position as a general ENT. As I reach out to practices, is there anything I can provide besides a CV that would be helpful? This is probably silly, but after writing so many personal statements in life, I feel compelled to write a letter with couple paragraphs trying to simply explain who I am and what I hope to bring, as well as why their practice interests me personally. Would that come across... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Financial planning for partnership
I just received an unsolicited job offer to become a full equity owner in a practice after 2 years (with no buy in!) I will also have a pension, paid leave, a business account and free life insurance. Sounds like I’ll be set for life. I can’t believe this opportunity fell into my lap. It’s a small group called USACS. I can’t wait to become a partner in a practice. Any advice on how to deal with this windfall TYVM (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How does ownership / partnership track work?
I'm hearing about job opportunities, and starting to dip my toe in the recruiting process. I don't understand what it means when I hear "two years at XXX, and then opportunity to become partner." My understanding is I get a share of the profit generated each year. Is this like stocks, where I would have to buy shares? Does the amount I work affect the dividend at the end of the year? i.e can I go 0.8 and still get it, what happens if I leave the position? I was hoping to get some of the... Partnership alternative
Does anyone on here get paid directly to an LLC? Are you a partner at your practice? Have any of you brought this up to your employer who has refused partnership? It seems like a good alternative for someone who is happy with their current role/compensation but wants to obtain tax deductions. Take your desired salary, add your malpractice, reimbursements for association dues/licensing fees and get that paid to an LLC by your employer as an independent contractor. Claim your deductions...
