Transplant Surgery in the Military
Questions about Transplant Surgery sub-specialty in the Army: 1) I know the Army does have a Transplant Surgery fellowship, but so far I have not been able to get any info on the number of spots they have, or whether this is a civilian or military fellowship (partnership between UMB and Walter Reed, so is it civ or mil?). 2) If, after repaying your dues to the Army (6 years for a gen. surg. residency), is it nearly impossible to gain entrance to a civ fellowship, i.e. are you considered... How long is/was your partnership track period
For those not in academics, how long is/was your partnership track period? Mine is 3 years and then my pay becomes equal to everyone else. Just curious to how others work, i.e. I have a buddy whose track period is 2 yrs but his practice then has a junior partner period for a couple of year where his pay is higher but not equal yet to senior partners. Empowering patients to be active participants in their care
"For all the articles advocating for “patient-centered care,” this is the change that we ultimately must be willing to make: Rather than having patients as passive recipients of care, they must be active producers of their care, in partnership and coordination with physicians and clinical staff. So what are the requirements for getting to that end state?" http://www.mdpi.com/2227-9032/3/1/50/htm... Empowering patients to be active participants in their care (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Good Refresher Course?
I am now re-entering anesthesiology after having practiced full time pain medicine for the past 25 years, and plan to finish my career with half prn anesthesiology and half time pain (not prn) to allow for flexibility. Are there any decent online anesthesiology refresher courses or do I need to go to the ASA or PGA annual meeting? My anesthesia practice is non-cardiac, and I am not seeking career advancement or partnership. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
