A Qualitative Analysis of the Effects of COVID-19 on Home Visiting Service Provision
This study examined the impact of the abrupt transition to telehealth as a result of COVID-19 on home visiting service provision in one mid-sized midwestern community from the perspective of clients and providers. We conducted semi-structured interviews with both home visiting clients and providers (N = 26) in prevention-focused home visiting services. Although some benefits to telehealth were reported, providers discussed challenges with regard to engaging clients in services and difficulties in completing important home visiting tasks (i.e., assessment of child development, teaching parent-child interaction). Providers a...

Indian fathers' perceptions of young childcare and feeding - A qualitative study
Appetite. 2024 May 7:107404. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2024.107404. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe role of parents in fostering children's healthy habits is a robust area of research. However, most of the existing literature predominantly focuses on mothers' parenting practices. Given the emergence of nuclear, dual earning families and the recent surge in maternal employment in urban India, fathers' engagement in child rearing and feeding warrants attention. The purpose of this research was to document the views of Indian fathers about paternal parenting practices, with an emphasis on children's diet among other health behav...

Parental Stress and Quality of Life in Parents of Young Children with Autism
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2024 May 9. doi: 10.1007/s10578-024-01693-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParents of children with ASD are at risk for chronic stress due to challenging parenting. It is unknown whether stress is already present in early parenthood, similar for mothers and fathers and if this impacts quality of life (QoL). Parental stress and QoL were assessed in 56 mothers and 51 fathers of young children (aged 3 to 7) with autism. Associations between parental stress (OBVL) and QoL (WHOQoL-BREF) were examined. Parents of young children with ASD appear to have high parental stress from conflicting feelings towar...

A systematic literature search of modifiable parental factors associated with bullying victimization was conducted using PubMed, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science electronic databases. Meta-analyses were performed to assess the mean effect sizes of the associations between the broader categories of parental factors (risk and protective) and b...

Does parental use of harsh discipline and punishment in response to ambiguous child situations vary by child physical abuse risk?
CONCLUSIONS: Since in everyday living situations many child behaviors are ambiguous, the findings that parents, especially high-risk for CPA parents, use harsh discipline and punishment when encountering ambiguous child situations suggest that non-contingent harsh child-related parental behaviors may be frequent in the lives of some children. The findings that parents may use non-contingent discipline and punishment suggest the need to explore whether, when these parenting behaviors occur, they increase the likelihood of negative child outcomes.PMID:38714071 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2024.106829 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)
