Parental psychological control and depression, anxiety among adolescents: The mediating role of bedtime procrastination and moderating role of neuroticism
Studies have shown that maladaptive parenting styles, particularly parental psychological control may be an important risk factor for emotional problems in adolescence. However, the potential mechanisms behind this association are still not fully understood. To fill the research gap, this study investigated the relationship between parental psychological control and depression and anxiety among adolescents. It also explored the mediating effect of bedtime procrastination and the moderating effect of neuroticism through a moderated mediation analysis. (Source: Archives of Psychiatric Nursing)

Child Sexual Abuse Victimization and Parenting
Child sexual abuse is a problem of epidemic proportions. The official number of sexual abuse victims in the United States for 2020 was 58,092 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2023). However, this number represents only the tip of the iceberg: cases of sexual abuse reported to child protective services, investigated, and substantiated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC; 2022) states that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys living in the United States will experience sexual abuse in their lifetime. Individual and systemic variables associated with prolonged grief and other emotional distress in bereaved children
by Paul A. Boelen, Mariken Spuij Most children confronted with the death of a loved one do not experience persisting psychological problems. However, for some, acute grief reactions develop into prolonged grief disorder (PGD) and other mental health problems. Research findings suggest that bereavement outcomes in children are ass ociated with negative cognitions and avoidant coping and with different parenting behaviours. However, knowledge about factors influencing grief in children is still limited and few studies have examined the relative impact of psychological (individual-level) variables and systemic (family-level)...

349. Children of Trauma Survivors: Influences of Parental PTSD and Parenting Behaviors on Symptom Outcomes
Understanding the intergenerational transmission of trauma from parent to child is integral to help mitigate symptoms and diagnoses in youth. Parental trauma symptoms, like PTSD, have established negative impacts on child physical, mental, and behavioral health due to parenting behaviors, home environment, and/or genetics. However, few studies have examined how children view a parent ’s parenting behaviors or how that view relates to their own symptoms. (Source: Biological Psychiatry)

277. Permissive Parenting Mediates the Association Between Maternal Depression and Anhedonia in Children
Anhedonia, the inability to experience pleasure, has been gaining traction as one of the key neurobiological manifestations that underpin a range of psychiatric disorders, including depression and schizophrenia. Measures of anhedonia, rather than the overarching clinical diagnoses, could provide unique insights into the underlying neural and developmental pathways. (Source: Biological Psychiatry)

Tracking real-time proximity in daily life: A new tool to examine social interactions
We examined the use of this novel method by exploring proximity patterns of family interactions among 233 participants (77 Dutch families, with 77 adolescents [Mage = 15.9] and 145 parents [Mage = 48.9]) for 14 consecutive days. Overall, proximity-based analyses indicated that adolescents were more often and longer in proximity to mothers than to fathers, with large differences between families in frequency and duration. Proximity-triggered evaluations of the interactions and parenting behavior were generally positive for both fathers and mothers. This innovative method is a promising tool that can be broadly used in other...

Preliminary Impact of Group-Based Interventions on Stigma and the Mental Health of Caregivers of Adolescents Living with HIV in Uganda
This study examined the preliminary impact of group-cognitive behavioral therapy (G-CBT) and a family-strengthening intervention delivered via multiple family groups (MFG-FS) on HIV stigma, parenting stress, and the mental health of caregivers of adolescents living with HIV. We analyzed data from the Suubi4Stigma study (2020 –2022), a two-year pilot randomized clinical trial for adolescents and their caregivers (N = 89 dyads), recruited from nine health clinics in Uganda. Adolescent-caregiver dyads were randomized to three intervention conditions delivered over three months, with data collected at baseline, three and...

Unique Profiles of Postpartum Family Needs and Evidence of Racial and Ethnic Disparities: Insights from Community Implementation of Family Connects
ConclusionsThe event of giving birth is both high risk and high opportunity for preventive intervention. Home-visiting programs, as an evidence-based approach, must address the diverse spectrum of familial needs comprehensively. (Source: Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities)

Working From Home and Work –Family Conflict: The Importance of Role Salience
This study examines the association between the frequency of working from home and two types of work–family conflict: (a) work-to-family conflict (WTFC) and (b) family-to-work conflict (FTWC). We also examine whether these associations are moderated by the salience worker s assign to their work and family roles, as well as by workers’ gender and parenting status. To explore these issues, we apply linear regression analyses to data from 4067 employees in Wave 12 (2019–2020) of the German Family Panel Survey. Results show that working from home more frequently is g enerally associated with both higher WTFC and FTWC for...

Process Evaluation and Investigation of Cultural Adaptations for an Online Parent-Based Intervention Using a Mixed-Method Approach
AbstractMost alcohol intervention research focuses on program efficacy, yet few studies have investigated the acceptability of a program ’s design and implementation to the target population or adapting existing alcohol interventions to different populations. To address these gaps in the literature, we (1) examined participant responsiveness to and implementation quality of FITSTART+, a web-app delivered parent-based alcohol interv ention designed for incoming first-year college students in the United States, and (2) gathered feedback on how this intervention could be adapted to other populations of parents. A sample of ...
