New Book Sketches
One of my favorite things when writing children ' s books is when my wonderful and talented illustrator,Kyra Teis, takes my notes and creates the characters and illustrations for the picture book. It ' s so exciting to see my ideas come to life, and to have the beginning artwork take shape. My next book will focus on jealousy in children in late 2024. Can ' t wait to share more.  (Source: Dr. Deborah Serani)

Dancing around the hexaflex: Using ACT in practice 5
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) can be slippery to describe. It’s an approach that doesn’t aim to change thought content, but instead to help us shift the way we relate to what our mind tells us. It’s also an approach focused on workability: pragmatic and context-specific analysis of how well a strategy is working to achieve being able to do what matters. Over the next few posts I want to give some examples of how non-psychologists can use ACT in session (remember ACT is open for anyone to use it!). Values: Qualities of living Oh so much has been written about values…Values bring meaning to what w...

The ABCs of parenting an LGBTQ+ child
Today’s politicians have gone amok with their unchecked and uninformed rhetoric and have decided to turn a blind eye to the new number-one killer of children in America. Supportive families like mine are persecuted daily, and affirming physicians like me Read more… The ABCs of parenting an LGBTQ+ child originally appeared in KevinMD.com. When Mother's Day is Tough
Mother ' s Day is a holiday that is marked world-wide. Countries such as the United States, Canada, The UK, Australia, China and Japan, just to name a few, highlight the day on their yearly calendar.Historically, Mother ' s Day has been a day where children and other family members honor mothers who are nurturing and supportive. R.I.P. Newton Minow
Paul MatzkoFormer FCC Chairman Newton Minow died a  few days ago and outlets dug deep into their archives to dust off their pre‐written obits for the 97‐year‐old who lived a full and eventful life. I had the opportunity to be on a panel with Minow back in 2021, which was a  somewhat surreal experience given how few of the people that I covered in mybook on broadcasting in the 1960s are still around. I  have a few thoughts about his legacy to share with you.Let ’s start with a positive note. Minow often had solid foresight. For instance, he was right when hetold JFK that launching the first telecom...

Friday Feature: Dekalb Christian Home Educators and the Georgia Black Home Educators Network
Colleen HroncichNicole Doyle, president of theDekalb Christian Home Educators (DCHE), has a unique way of looking at parenting. “You are the architect,” she explains. “You can hire all the general contractors and subcontractors you want to. But you have to take ownership as the architect of your child’s physical, mental, spiritual, and academic growth. Because statisticts show us that parental involvement is really w hat’s pushing kids into being successful.”Nicole started homeschooling after one of her children ’s public school teachers suggested it around 10 years ago. “I started researchin...
