Roles and mechanisms of copper homeostasis and cuproptosis in osteoarticular diseases
Biomed Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 9;174:116570. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116570. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCopper is an essential trace element in the human body that is extensively distributed throughout various tissues. The appropriate level of copper is crucial to maintaining the life activities of the human body, and the excess and deficiency of copper can lead to various diseases. The copper levels in the human body are regulated by copper homeostasis, which maintains appropriate levels of copper in tissues and cells by controlling its absorption, transport, and storage. Cuproptosis is a distinct form of cell death ...

USP5 promotes tumorigenesis by activating Hedgehog/Gli1 signaling pathway in osteosarcoma
Am J Cancer Res. 2024 Mar 15;14(3):1204-1216. doi: 10.62347/JMFF8182. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTChanges in protein ubiquitination have been linked to cancer. Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) counteract E3 ligase activities and have emerged as promising targets for cancer treatment. Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 5 (USP5) is a member of the DUBs family and has been implicated in promoting tumorigenesis in numerous cancers. However, the clinical significance and biological function of USP5 in osteosarcoma (OS) remains unclear. Here, we found elevated USP5 expression in OS tissues compared with normal bone tissues. Furthermore, w...

Understanding exosomes: Part 2-Emerging leaders in regenerative medicine
Periodontol 2000. 2024 Apr 9. doi: 10.1111/prd.12561. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExosomes are the smallest subset of extracellular signaling vesicles secreted by most cells with the ability to communicate with other tissues and cell types over long distances. Their use in regenerative medicine has gained tremendous momentum recently due to their ability to be utilized as therapeutic options for a wide array of diseases/conditions. Over 5000 publications are currently being published yearly on this topic, and this number is only expected to dramatically increase as novel therapeutic strategies continue to be developed. T...

LncRNA HOXA ‑AS2 is a prognostic and clinicopathological predictor in patients with cancer: A meta‑analysis
In conclusion, elevated expression of lncRNA HOXA-AS2 was significantly related to poor clinical outcomes in various cancer types, such as osteosarcoma, non-small cell lung cancer and papillary thyroid carcinoma, a finding that was further confirmed by the present study. Specifically, the potential of lncRNAHOXA-AS2 as a biomarker in assessing tumor stage, metastasis risk and OS in patients was demonstrated. However, the results of the present study also indicated that the expression of lncRNA HOXA-AS2 was not significantly associated with age or sex, suggesting its role in cancer progression might be independent of these ...

Stabilizing tumor resident mast cells restores T cell infiltration and sensitizes sarcomas to PD-L1 inhibition
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests the targeting of MCs with clinically administered drugs, such as antihistamines, as a promising approach to overcome resistance to immunotherapy in sarcomas.PMID:38578281 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-24-0246 (Source: Cell Research)
