NYMC vs VCU
Hi everyone! Super lucky to have 2 A’s this cycle but I’m not sure which school would help me most with matching back to California. I don’t have a preference at all for location, and tuition will be the same for me at both schools. I also unfortunately don’t know exactly what I want to do yet, but too choices as of now are obgyn with a specialiastion in gyn surgery and hem/onc with a specialization in breast cancer. Please help me!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How does a DO become a successful OBGYN applicant?
I am a first year med student at a graded and ranked established DO school. I am very interested in becoming an OBGYN and want to know what steps I must take to successfully match. Questions: 1) Do COMLEX scores matter? I'm reading that Step >>> COMLEX. is this true for OB? 2) How important is research? Are in-school poster presentations good? That's about as much research I can find at my school. 3) Is class rank important? I am mostly getting B's and a couple of A's, and I think I'm... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MFM - Applicant
As an ObGyn PGY2 resident, I am an international medical graduate (IMG) with no need for visa sponsorship. My passion for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is immense, and I am fully committed to pursuing it. I am eager to know what MFM programs prioritize in their applicants and how many programs MFM fellows typically apply to. Could you please provide insights into the key factors MFM programs consider when evaluating applicants? Additionally, I would like to know the average number of... Dual Applied at Same Institution(s)
Hi guys! At the request of my school, they suggested I dual apply this cycle. I applied and interviewed both OBGYN and EM. I only interviewed at 2 EM programs and I know I would not be happy in the field, so I am not planning to rank these two programs. However, the 2 EM programs I interviewed with are at my top one and two programs for OBGYN. I feel pretty good about the number and quality of my OBGYN interviews. Should I withdraw from the EM programs at this stage? Or just leave them... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

M3 applying Neuro/IM
I'm done with 4/6 of 3rd year clerkships so far and thought this would be a good time to think about residency apps. wanted to see if my self-perception is accurate Med school: "top 20" fwiw Preclinical: P/F curriculum, all P Step 1: Pass on first attempt Clinical: (my school gives 30%-50% Honors for most rotations, the rest HP) - HP on Neuro and Peds, Honors on Surgery and Psych, still have to do OBGYN and IM. Anyone else in between specialties?
So I have made some other posts but I was curious if anyone else is in the same situation. I had been set on an Uber competitive specialty since I was a child but I have decided against it for a multitude of reasons. So now I am at a loss and unsure of what specialty to pursue. I have a few things that "I think" are important to me. As of now the only specialty that I do not want to pursue is obgyn. I enjoyed the surgeries as well as the practice set up but the bread and butter are not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Intern hoping to switch specialties
Hello! I am currently an OBGYN PGY-1 who decided that OBGYN is not for me. I am hoping to switch into preferably Internal Medicine, but if not, Family Medicine. I have signed up for all the websites that provide information on open residency spots including AMA Frieda database, ResidentSwap, and FindaResident, but have been told that many of the residency programs on there prefer an IM>IM transfer for smoother transition given how late it is in the year. My plan is to hopefully SOAP into a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Speciality choice
Greetings, I am IMG graduate, and my passion has always leaned towards fields involving surgical intervention such as Surgery, OBGYN, or Ophthalmology. However, when it came time to apply for residencies, the prevailing trend among my IMG graduate peers was Internal Medicine due to its high acceptance rate. Consequently, I pursued Internal Medicine and completed my residency a few years ago. I have since been working as a hospitalist, but I find little satisfaction in this practice. Now, in... SDN Article: Why Men Should Consider OB/GYN as a Specialty
The Student Doctor Network publishes articles weekly. Check out this article or other articles about residency and the Match at Student Doctor Network. “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle,” croons U2 in the song “Tryin’ to Throw Your Arms Around the World.” The same could be said for the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN). I entered my career as an OB/GYN physician with a desire to help families at what, for many, is a critical... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
