UMich vs. USC Keck
Hi Y'all! I'm grateful to have options here but I'm honestly a bit overwhelmed trying to decide on a school, so any insight would be much appreciated! Both schools would be new environments for me although I currently live in a city. I’m not quite sure where I want to be for residency but unlikely the midwest (besides Chicago, potentially). At the moment, I’m interested in surgery, OBGYN, and internal medicine. Both schools have AOA as far as I know, although UMich’s clinical year is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Only taking Step 2?
OMS-2 here. I feel really confident on my abilities generally. I have always been a below-average standardized test taker, however. I think I have a uniquely good relationship with a dean who is an OBGYN and I am confident I can get good letters from him and on my rotations in a few months. My research is coming along 4-5 pubs/projects by graduation. Really strong, longitudinal volunteer experience and my interview skills are strong. I’m not trying to toot my horn, rather give better... M3 Newly Interested in IR
Hello everyone! I wanted to ask about getting interested in IR late in the game as an M3 at a T20 school. I just finished clerkship year and was not exactly sure about what clerkship grades are most important besides surgery for IR. I received HP in ObGyn and IM and honored the rest of the clerkships, but I had heard that IM is a very important clerkship for radiology related fields. For 4th year, I was thinking to do a SubI in surgery since it seems that would be related to IR, but is it... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pelvic exams and cancer
So on the big Physcian community Facebook group there was a thread topic saying that ED/PCPs do not do as many pelvics as one OBGYN would like. They all list cancer as why pelvics should be done. There were a few posts saying it was malpractice for missing cancer. But when I do my pelvics and the cervix looks nonuniform I just tell them to go to OBGYN. Even if it is a necrotic mass Gyn says they should still follow up in the office. I see for foriegn body removal or lac repair (calling... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

More Robust OBGYN Psychiatry Training?
Interested in OB but got a question for my brothers and sisters in psychiatry. I am wondering how an OBGYN resident can get more robust training in psychiatry. For both personal reasons and just seeing the need, I really hope to become very competent in this area. I realize that psychiatry and counseling is often the golden standard for more severe cases of PPD, PMDD, etc but I hope to provide a better bridge until those services can be rendered. I also want to do the best I can for the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post interview conflict of interest?
I interviewed at a school a couple of weeks ago. This morning, I learned that my faculty interviewer from the school I interviewed at is the new OBGYN for one of my pregnant clients. Part of my job requires me to frequently take clients to appointments where I often stay throughout them. I also sometimes serve as the point of contact for the client's healthcare team. I have heard that sometimes the interviewer is involved in the admissions process for this school, but am unsure in this... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is look like being an Anesthesia Attending in ObGyn hospital?
Hi SDN Anesthesiologists, I hope you are doing well. It has been a while, not that long to write here. I was a bit busy with bureaucracy of where the health directorate of this city would assign me to start my career as an Attending, and guess what (probably you read it and got it in the title), they finally assigned me to a maternity hospital in a district (urban - rural city) 30 miles away from where I live. Next week, I will have 72 hours shift (8 hours daily OR) and the rest in call for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Late to the surgery game
This seems to be a common theme/ thread on here. I am a 3rd year DO student in the midwest. I got out on rotations and absolutely loved being in the OR. This is a huge change for me as I was basically gung-ho about EM from the start. I've done pretty well in medical school, being in top quarter of the class. I honored my OBGYN and FM rotations so far, haven't taken the Surg shelf. I have a single pub with the possibility of a second this year. I ended up taking both Step 1 and Comlex...
