Can research hurt your residency application in some circumstances?
I suppose there are two potential scenarios for this: 1) Doing research in a specialty during MS1-MS3 (for example, OBGYN), only to find out that you don't want to go into that specialty cause another one catches your interest (Optho, for example). But now all the optho residencies will see that you did a bunch of OBGYN research and fault you for it. 2) Doing research in the specialty you apply to, BUT the program you want to go to doesn't like their residents doing too much research. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Switch from IM to FM
Well, currently PGY1 internist , loved outpatient, loved OBgyn, ped and outpatient procedures. (which IM does not have) Please I am under a J1 visa sponsored by the Canadian Gov, doing IM = jobless when I return to Canada, because accreditation is a long process. and I do not want to do J1 waiver. I got above average step 1/CK score and excellent ITE. I know it is late in the game, but do I have an advantage? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are the incomes posted on gasworks exaggerations of reality?
I was browsing gasworks instead of studying for my obgyn shelf and decided to check out jobs in the northeast. I see things posted like this: GasWork.com - Reference #356284 Seemingly a 5 day week for 625k in Connecticut with no call, obviously this looks too good to be true, so is it? How do you tell what's real vs a scam. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need help deciding between peds or adult neuro
Hello everyone, Super low step one (205), all Ps and one HP in clinicals, originally wanted to do obgyn or anesthesia. Did not love my peds rotation, but know that I will match. My school does not have a neuro rotation so I have very little exposure to the field. Would love to hear from some people who chose or didn't choose neuro Peds Pros: Easy to match, I like kids enough, the general peds clinic life does not seem stressful, every pediatrician seems to love their job and isn't burnt... Need some advice: ObGyn/GS with 571 Comlex.
Alright so, not sure what to do. Class of 23. I had some personal family issues that made summer/fall challenging. Anyway, I took Comlex I and got a 571. I canceled my Step because of family events. Then rotations started and I didnt get in before the cutoff. Do you think that a 571 on comlex and pass on Step will still be okay for Ob or GS? This has been frustrating. Thanks for the help. Male DO student going into OBGYN
Hello everyone, I am a male OBGYN student. I discounted OB until I did my rotation. I rotated with an majority male group, which from what I learned is very very very rare these days. They did not seem to have issues with patients and neither did I. But what about the rest of the OB world as a male doctor? Does it hurt residency chances? Also, how bad is the DO bias in OB? I have a 236 step one score. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OB/GYN Lifestyle Questions
Hi everyone! I"m an M1 interested in OB/GYN and I wanted to get a better understanding of what I could expect. I apologize if my questions are naive! I'm still exploring specialties and am just curious about some aspects of OB/GYN. I'd like to operate a solo practice one day, but I know there are some hurdles to this. My understanding is that I'll mostly be limited to GYN because of how hard securing malpractice coverage for obstetrics is. Would it be a feasible plan to operate a GYN solo... Best obgyn shelf resources
I'm curious what everyone found to be the best resources for the ob shelf exam. I've been reading threads from a few years ago but as expected, many of those resources have quickly become dated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OBGYN vs. Gen Surg vs. What Else? Advice for a (probably too far) forward-thinking male M1
So I'm an M1 at my state's allopathic program. I'm non-traditional, 27 yo, with a wife and 9 month old queen. Medicine is my passion. I'm super thankful to be where I am. I think it's incredible that I get to learn all this awesome stuff about the human body and then actually use it to make people better. This is like real-life Hogwarts for me. It's what I read books over or watch movies on. My path to medical school was a little windy and required a bit of soul searching. I was sitting in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

General Surgery Interest- Mixed Performance
Hello, I usually dislike these posts, but I am having a huge amount fo anxiety regarding this and want to talk more about it with people who might have some honest input. I am an American Med student interested in general surgery (but also very open to OBGYN yet general surgery comes first). I have done great in my preclinicals and then life happened: 1) I really did not do well on my step 1 (literally barely passed so keep that in mind). 2) I failed my Family med shelf. Otherwise I am... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
