Competitive applicant, did not match to EM after couples matching, what now?
I'll get straight to the point, I couples matched with my S/O this year (I wanted EM, they wanted OBGYN), and neither of us matched. We're obviously devastated and super shocked, but we still want to try reapplying because we were both pretty competitive individually (both US MD graduates, >245 Step 1, >250 Step 2) and had 22-25 interview offers each, all at pretty good programs, so it didn't feel like either of us was really a weak link at all. We ranked all 300 possible spots. Feedback... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

obgyn vs internal medicine
Hey all, Like many schizophrenic third years I declared myself to be a certain kind of doctor (internal medicine) early in the third year, set up my fourth year to facilitate that goal, and then took my ob/gyn clerkship and fell in love. Loved the surgery, loved delivering babies, loved the residents, loved the patients, loved it all. So please - help me resolve my identity crisis! I have already taken steps to change up my rotations, made a pro/con list for each residency, and have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UK OTD - anyone have any experience with FRANZCR?
I have looked into this fairly extensively and I am aware of the DWS situation and obviously the fun times with 189 limits and the need to find a 190 path. However, the one area that is a bit of a black box is the substantially/partially comparable decision. The FRCR has no obstetrics so I assume substantially comparable is not going to happen. The impression I get is that partially comparable with FRANZCR part 2 only is the ideal outcome, so that getting a fellowship and doing the exams in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Those that don't use anki how many pages of notes do you have?
I've only used anki and q banks for my study throughout my whole degree but my mate showed me her ob/gyn notes and I almost fell off my chair. she had 120k words in like a 500 pages word document with some images too. That's just for obgyn, I just use the 16k anki cards. Those of you that don't use anki, how many notes do you have? I couldn't believe she had 120k words, all hand typed as well - no copy and paste, she has like 6 pages for a topic whereas I might have 6 cards. This isn't a... UT Austin (Dell) vs UT Houston (McGovern)
Hi all, I received a prematch to both Dell and McGovern (very thankful for that), but I am extremely unsure which school would be a better fit. I haven't narrowed down my interests to one specialty, but so far I'm interested in derm/GI/OBGYN. Dell Pros True P/F (really excited about this) Smaller class and strong mentorship Flexible 3rd year for research, masters, etc. Good STEP scores I'm interested in health policy and administration Early clerkships... 518 comlex
Just curious. I scored a 518 on my COMLEX 1 and I am thinking mostly about going into Peds, maybe OBGYN. Is this score good enough without taking the USMLE? Any thoughts/advice is appreciated! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC Texas Medical Schools Low GPA
I graduated recently and unfortunately, my GPA has a slight downward trend. Should I retake the MCAT for a more competitive score? Or should I apply for a one-year SMP? I am currently a Texas resident and plan on applying to all Texas schools. Is my GPA too low for MD? Any advice is appreciated! cGPA: 3.3 sGPA: 3.1 MCAT Score: 507 (126/126/127/128) Shadowing: 300+ hours (Emergency Medicine & OBGYN) Research: Summer internship with a poster presentation (Molecular Genetics) Non-clinical... Does it make sense to go to med school if I ’m only interested in “non-competitive” specialties?
I’m a non-trad who turned premed my last year of completing my psychology bachelors (2019). I’m very interested in psychiatry, family medicine, and possibly obgyn. I was having a conversation with someone (who has a clinical psych PhD) and they were saying that it makes more sense to do PA or NP for non competitive specialities since they don’t make that much less than an MD (family med, psych). Also, they were saying that psychiatrists don’t do anything besides medication management and... Does it make sense to go to med school if I’m only interested in “non-competitive” specialties?
