Dr Nurse - I see both sides
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/07/18/doctor-nurse-title-lawsuit-california/ I can see both sides to this. On one hand, if I spend the time getting a doctorate, I should be able to celebrate that fact in title. Do PhD professors get called Dr Smartypants when addressed? Jack Ryan (in the Tom Clancy series) is called Dr Ryan. BUT.... How does the Dr Nurse want to let the world know he/she isn't a physician? How do they propose we introduce ourselves to distinguish us... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Promoting Leadership Training in Podiatry
In the United States, there are over 4 million nurses and 150,000 PAs, while podiatrists amount to only 20,000. When we consider the numbers, it becomes clear that there exists a significant discrepancy in representation. Despite having comparable education to our esteemed MD/DO counterparts, podiatrists face a narrow scope of practice compared to other professions with less training. These professions are actively pushing for legislation to expand their practice scope, and the pandemic has... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Calling off sick in Emergency Medicine
Currently an attending and approaching 9 weeks pregnant. The first trimester has been 24/7 nausea and exhaustion. I'm on unisom and b6, but still feel crappy. I've lost 5lbs. I'm struggling to hydrate and keep getting nosebleeds from vomiting. I have a stretch of single coverage night shifts coming up. My "morning" sickness has been mostly at night. During my last stretch of nights, I vomited on the last night (when I was 5 weeks). There is no back up at this place. It's me and 2 nurses... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Swan
Weird q sorry... For cardiac folk, for easy cases. To speed up anesthesia start up... Anyone just float the Swan to cvp, then let the surgeons start, and float it to PA later in the case? We're short on AAs right now and the OR nurses are very slow with the Swan connections and pressure lines. Sometimes they contaminate the whole setup. I have 0 control over which help I get daily. Often it's a new person. So, if I do it myself later in the case when I have downtime, would that be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

To Those of You Who Practice in the Indigent Outpatient World
I joined an outpatient clinic which despite being a setting with many indigent/uninsured patients, has extremely limited access to case management and even nursing for that matter. I also live in a vary populous state where revolving door psychiatric care is more common due funding issues. Take your guesses. Getting people linked with ACT takes upwards of six months etc. So when I joined, the plan was for me to take on the "neutral" (mixed bag) caseload of someone who'd left. Instead, I...
