Questioning validity of oral sedation for pain procedures
Went for initial consultation for the ol' snip snip this past week. Nurse says, "if you want valium beforehand, only 2 of our docs offer it. It's 5mg 1hr prior and it has to be specifically requested beforehand." Makes me wonder -- if urologists aren't routinely giving benzos for vasectomies and those who do only give 5mg...why are pain docs giving any at all for our procedures? Anesthesiologists less stressed than CRNAs
Found this interesting article ranking stress of jobs-t Urologists are the most stressed of all workers. We rank pretty low at 87 even less than nurse anesthetists (96) - I guess we are either well trained and don’t feel stressed or this is just a crappy survey. I would agree I wouldn’t enjoy my job as much if I had to look at people’s junk all the time. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NP School, While Applying
I've practiced as a registered nurse and am ready to pursue medical school. I should have my application ready by next cycle. However, I'm not ignorant of that fact that this is an incredibly competitive process. Due to this, I'd like to pursue both a nurse practitioner degree (2-3 year program) and a medical degree at around the same time. This does not mean that I'm not serious as a medical school applicant, but I do need to realize that I'm older, this is probably going to be my last... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mobile Nursing groups
Just a general question here mostly geared to people who have undertaken mobile nursing work… Is the salary actually viable for survival while a practice is ramping up? PPG, 360 care etc other a percentage of collections which seems decent. But then what if your homes are based in areas with crappy payors? U get a percetange of an already crappy reimbursement. I’m sure there’s other facilities that are comprised of a better payor mix. I’m trying to figure out some options while a office... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
