As I was pushing a 198kg patient to the OR today for her Mirena insertion under general anesthesia with a known difficult airway, I was wondering what other institutions do for patient transport. At our hospital, the circulating nurse has to see the patient in pre-op before the patient goes to OR to confirm that all the paperwork is done then immediately sprints back to the OR to wait for the patient to arrive leaving me by myself to push the bed to said location. How do you handle needy patients and family?
Question for y'all. How do you deal with patients and family that want/need updates. Like, legitimately some have serious issues going on, and I think they deserve an update, but they also ask a ton of questions, talk super slow, and sometimes make life hell for the nurses, but you're sitting in the middle of a dumpster fire of a shift?
