Can anyone give me some thoughts and advice?
Hey guys. I'm feeling pretty defeated. I am currently in nursing school, and 2 months away from graduating with my associates degree in nursing. Prior to nursing school, I had no direction in my life. Was just being a bum working odd jobs here and there. I'm 28 now and realized that I wanted to do medicine after being exposed to the clinical environment. Patient care is something I eventually learned to love, and honestly can't imagine myself doing anything else. I worked so hard in my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Rad Onc? Burnt Out?
Here’s some advice from a senior medical director from a leading prior auth company. You know, those guys who make you wait one week to do a P2P because you wanted to do SRS on a solitary brain met and the nurse reviewer said she can authorize it right away if you do it “by 3D.” Then the P2P guy says, sorry prostate cancer brain mets are excluded from our SRS policy. You can appeal if you’d like. Those guys have nothing to do with your burn out I’m sure. Not to be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

We must do better
Podiatry compensation is laughable. We go through 4 years of post graduate education to then do 3 years of residency… FOR WHAT? To make the same or less then a PA with only 2 years of post graduate education. This is not to overlook the value of PA/NP. It’s a needed and great profession. However until we start to stand up for ourselves and get some lobbyist (like the nursing community has) our value will never go up. Okay we are replaceable? Let ID handle the Diabetic foot ulcer, let... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NP to physician
I posted here a few years ago, be re-visiting since I still can't get going to med school out of my head... Sorry if this is long winded. I'm turning 30 this fall. I currently am a nurse practitioner, have been working as one for the past 7 months. About 2/3 way through my NP program I realized I really wish I had pursued medical school, but kept with my program and even did a one year "residency" to help me feel better prepared. Every day I go into work wishing I wasn't a midlevel... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Doctors sometimes offering embarrassing advice
A woman comes in saying she needed stitches for a finger lac. She already cleaned it and put on a bandaid. She called the advice nurse. SENT THE ADVICE NURSE PICTURES. The nurse then talked to a doctor, and ultimately said "you should go to the ER because you need stitches." This was the smallest laceration ever! It was tiny! So f'ing embarrassing that a doctor and a nurse told her that. I legit said "I'm sorry you got bad advice. So embarrassing." She even showed me the picture...
