En Block Versus Separate Management of Cervical Nodes in Tongue and Floor of the Mouth Cancers- Is There a Difference? An Analysis of 85 Cases in a Tertiary Care Institute
AbstractTo evaluate difference in local recurrence, regional (neck) recurrence as well as distant metastases between cases operated with en-block excision of primary cancer and neck nodes versus their separate removal, in squamous cell carcinomas of anterior 2/3 of tongue and floor of the mouth. A total 85 patients of cT1-T4a N0-N2b of carcinoma  anterior 2/3 of tongue and floor of mouth were evaluated. Amongst these patients 39 cases of in-continuity en-block neck dissection and 46 cases of discontinuous neck dissection were evaluated for post-operative complications as well as oncological outcome for a follow up per...

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 7189: Novel Insights into Young Adults ’ Perceived Effectiveness of Waterpipe Tobacco-Specific Pictorial Health Warning Labels in Lebanon: Implications for Tobacco Control Policy
This study aims to explore the perceived effectiveness of waterpipe (WP) tobacco specific health warning labels (HWLs) among young adult WP smokers and nonsmokers in Lebanon. Before participating in focus group discussions, participants (n = 66; WP smokers n = 30; nonsmokers n = 36; age 18–33) completed a brief survey to rate the effectiveness of 12 HWLs’ and rank them according to four risk themes (WP health effects, WP harm to others, WP-specific harm, and WP harm compared to cigarettes). Differences in HWLs ratings by WP smoking status were examined and the top-ranked HWL in each theme were identified. HWLs depictin...

Magnitude and pattern of various cancers from tertiary health care center registry: A study in three southern states of India
H Magesh Rajan, S Mageswari, K Gayathri, S Satish, M Baluswamy, T Vijayapushpam, R VijayaprabhaJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2021 17(2):336-339 Many research studies have looked into the epidemiological aspects including various potential risk factors associated with cancers, namely environmental, dietary, genetic, and hormonal. The present article studies the magnitude and pattern of various cancers registered at tertiary health-care centers in three South Indian states. Data from hospital-based cancer registries compiled by the ICMR-National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research for the time periods ...

Prognostic value of non-smoking, non-alcohol drinking status in oral cavity cancer
ConclusionTreatment response and disease-specific prognosis are comparable between NSND and SD patients with oral cavity cancer. However, NSND patients have better OS.Clinical relevanceThis study shows that oral cavity cancer in NSND is not less or more aggressive compared to SD patients. Although better survival is expected for NSND than SD patients, this is likely due to the reduced incidence of other chronic diseases in the NSND group. (Source: Clinical Oral Investigations)

Brachytherapy with 198 Au grains for cancer of the floor of the mouth: relationships between radiation dose and complications
ConclusionOur study showed that the combination of EBRT and198Au grains brachytherapy for the floor of the mouth cancer patients might be associated with risks of developing complications of soft tissue ulcer and mandibular bone necrosis. (Source: Oral Radiology)

Step-by-Step Cadaver Dissection and Surgical Technique for Compartmental Tongue and Floor of Mouth Resection
ConclusionsWe herein present the CS step-by-step technique to highlight its potential in improving loco-regional control by checking all possible routes of tumor spread. Correct identification of the anatomical space between tumor and nodes (T-N tract), spatial relationships of extrinsic tongue muscles, as well as neurovascular bundles of the floor of mouth, are depicted to improve knowledge of this complex anatomical area. Combined rehabilitation of a lower lip defect after resection of floor of mouth cancer: A clinical report
This clinical report describes the successful prosthetic rehabilitation of a deficient lower lip in an edentulous patient who had undergone surgery for removal of a squamous cell carcinoma of the anterior floor of the mouth and vestibule. The rehabilitation used a combined approach of an extraoral lip prosthesis joined by 3 magnets to an intraoral implant-retained mandibular resection prosthesis. The outcome demonstrated rehabilitation of the lower third of the face by eliminating loss of fluids and by improving the facial profile, lip contour and competence, esthetics, the patient ’s eating ability, speech intelligibili...
