Authors: Fanaras N, Warnakulasuriya S Abstract The incidence of oral cancer in the UK is rising, with approximately 7,300 new cases diagnosed in 2012. The number of oral cancer cases in the UK has risen by more than a quarter in the last decade. Mouth cancer is within the ten most common cancers encountered among men in the UK. Oral Mucosa Model for Electrochemotherapy Treatment of Dog Mouth Cancer: Ex Vivo, In Silico, and In Vivo Experiments
Abstract Electrochemotherapy (EQT) is a local cancer treatment well established to cutaneous and subcutaneous tumors. Electric fields are applied to biological tissue in order to improve membrane permeability for cytotoxic drugs. This phenomenon is called electroporation or electropermeabilization. Studies have reported that tissue conductivity is electric field dependent. Electroporation numerical models of biological tissues are essential in treatment planning. Tumors of the mouth are very common in dogs. Inadequate EQT treatment of oral tumor may be caused by significant anatomic variations between dogs and tumor positi...

Unit using mouth cancer screening mobile dental
Oral cancer is one of the most serious public health problems, has a higher morbidity/mortality among head and neck cancers. According to INCA 2016, estimates will be 11,140 new cases of oral cavity cancer in men and women. This paper aims to show the importance of screening for oral cancer, through active pursuit of risk population, increasing the level of information on the risk factors and the achievement of an early diagnosis. Individuals of both genders, above 40 years of age, smoking and/or alcohol consumers, were subjected to clinical examination by a dentist. (Source: Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Or...

When it affects the oral mucosa, the disease becomes destructive and granulomatous. The purpose is to report a clinical case and the difficulty of performing diagnosis of leishmaniasis in remote regions. Patient NF, male, 61-year-old, leucoderma, coming from Porto dos Gauchos - MT, was referred to the Prevention Department in Mouth Cancer by teledermatology with ulcerovegetative injury and granulomatous in the hard and soft palate. The challenge of the approach to oral cancer in primary health care
Abstract The aim of this study was to understand the performance of dentists in public health about mouth cancer. A cross-sectional study was performed whit 121 dentists from Fortaleza Health Department, interviewed through a semi-structured questionnaire. The study did not identify statistically significant difference regarding the ability to perform biopsy by gender, year of graduation, expertise or time of public service. Only 22 professionals (18.2%) reported being able to perform biopsies and 13 (10.7%) would do so at the Family Health Unit. Spotting the signs of oral mouth cancer in pharmacy
In the UK, mouth cancer cases have increased by 39% in the past decade and  by 92% since the 1970s. In fact, it is one of a small number of cancers that is continuing to see cases increase. Alongside this, survival rates have not improved in the same period and, sadly, more than 2,000 lives are lost to the disease every year. This is twice as many as cervical and testicul ar cancers combined and much of this can be attributed to late diagnosis. (Source: Clinical Pharmacist)

Awareness of Mouth Cancer Among Adult Dental Patients Attending the Kuwait University Dental School Clinic
AbstractIn Kuwait, the age-standardized incidence rate (per 100,000) for oral cancer is 1.5 and the mortality rate is 0.4. Early detection of oral cancer combined with appropriate treatment greatly improves the chances of cure and the quality of life. However, little is known about patient awareness of this disease and the ability to identify early signs, particularly among high-risk groups. Hence, the aim of this study is to assess dental patients ’ awareness and knowledge of mouth cancer and beliefs and perceptions about risk factors. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect information from a convenience ...

Campaign for awareness of cancer of the head and neck in Ireland
In 2009, we founded the Mouth, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Ireland (MHNCAI) Group to promote awareness in Ireland. This campaign was initiated primarily by people who had recovered from cancer, and was supported by the Dental Health Foundation, the Irish Cancer Society, and the university dental schools in Cork and Dublin. The first Mouth Cancer Awareness Day (MCAD) was held at Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH) 1 and Cork University Dental School & Hospital (CUDSH) in September 2010. Trends in mouth cancer incidence in Mumbai, India (1995 –2009): An age-period-cohort analysis
Conclusions APC analyses from the Mumbai cancer registry indicate a significant linear increase of mouth cancer incidence from 1995 to 2009 in men, which was driven by younger men aged 25–49 years, and a non-significant upward trend in similarly aged younger women. Health promotion efforts should more effectively target younger cohorts. (Source: Cancer Epidemiology)

Parameters and outcomes in 525 patients operated on for oral squamous cell carcinoma
Conclusions The results demonstrate an improvement in the 5-year OS and DSS rates during the past decade compared with the previous decade. Univariate analysis revealed that age, tumor staging, and lymph node involvement, extracapsular spread, grading, perineurial invasion, infitration depth, and osseus medullary invasion were associated significantly with overall survival and disease-specific survival. Oral cancer awareness in young South-Asian communities in London.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that young adults in the South Asian Community are exposed to a number of risk factors for oral cancer yet have poor knowledge of the implications of these health-related behaviours, and ways in which oral cancer can be detected earlier. The survey highlighted specific issues for action. PMID: 27149776 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Community Dental Health)
