Meloxicam Inhibits Apoptosis in Neurons by Deactivating Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 25, Leading to the Decreased Cleavage of DNA Fragmentation Factor Subunit α in Alzheimer’s Disease
Abstract   Neuronal apoptosis is considered to be a critical cause of Alzheimer ’s disease (AD). Recently, meloxicam has shown neuroprotective effects; however, the inherent mechanisms are highly overlooked. Using APP/PS1 transgenic (Tg) mice as in vivo animal models, we found that meloxicam inhibits apoptosis in neurons by deactivating tumor necrosis factor receptor superfam ily member 25 (TNFRSF25), leading to the suppression of the expression of fas-associated protein with death domain (FADD) and the cleavage of DNA fragmentation factor subunit α (DFFA) and cysteine aspartic acid protease-3 (caspase 3) via β-amylo...

Cocktail drug usage and etofenamate detection in post-race equine urine sample: A case report
Biomed Chromatogr. 2022 Nov 24:e5556. doi: 10.1002/bmc.5556. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA recent trend in the use of high resolution accurate mass screening (HRAMS) for doping control testing in both human and animal sports has emerged due to significant improvement in high resolution mass spectrometry in terms of sensitivity, mass accuracy, mass resolution, and mass stability. Several HRAMS methods have been reported for the detection of multidrug residues in human or equine urine. These improved analytical technologies have led to changes in the use of prohibited substances, the administration of more than one substan...

Hystricomorph Rodent Analgesia
Limited information on the analgesic efficacy and safety of even clinically commonly used analgesic drugs in guinea pigs and chinchillas is available. Buprenorphine and meloxicam are currently the most common analgesics routinely used to treat painful conditions in guinea pigs and chinchillas. Hydromorphone has also shown to be an effective analgesic drug in these species, with limited adverse effects. Tramadol in chinchillas does not provide analgesia even at high doses, and no information is available on the efficacy of this drug in guinea pigs. Multimodal analgesic protocols should be considered whenever possible. (Sour...

Intra-articular injection PLGA blends sustained-release microspheres loaded with meloxicam: preparation, optimization, evaluation < em > in vitro < /em > and < em > in vivo < /em >
Drug Deliv. 2022 Dec;29(1):3317-3327. doi: 10.1080/10717544.2022.2144545.ABSTRACTMeloxicam (MLX) is a commonly used drug in the clinical treatment of osteoarthritis, but it is associated with gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Therefore, in this study, we developed a sustained-release microsphere formulation of MLX for topical administration of knee joint. The MLX-loaded PLGA microspheres (MLX-MS) were prepared by emulsion solvent evaporation method with optimization of formulation using orthogonal experimental design. Physicochemical characterization results show MLX-MS were spherical with a smooth surface, the particle ...

Am J Vet Res. 2022 Nov 16:1-8. doi: 10.2460/ajvr.22.08.0132. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: To describe the effect of a mesotherapy protocol in dogs with osteoarthritis.ANIMALS: 30 dogs.PROCEDURES: Dogs were randomly assigned to a control (CG; n = 10) or a mesotherapy group (MG; 20). CG received meloxicam for 70 days. MG was treated with a combination of lidocaine, piroxicam, and thiocolchicoside, injected in intradermal points. Seven treatment sessions were conducted. Response to treatment was measured with different instruments: the Canine Brief Pain Inventory (divided into Pain Interference Score [PIS] and Pai...
