Delineating molecular regulatory network of meat quality of longissimus dorsi indicated by transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomics analysis in rabbit
This study aims to investigate the potential regulatory network responsible for the meat quality using multi-omics to help developing better varieties. Slaughter performance and meat quality of Shuxing No.1 rabbit outperformed IRA rabbit according to the tested rabbit parameters. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially abundance proteins (DAPs) were involved in meat quality-related pathways, such as PI3K - Akt and MAPK signaling pathway. Only SMTNL1 and PM20D2 shared between DEGs and DAPs. Olfactory-sensitive undecanal, a differentially abundant metabolite (DAM) in volatilomics (vDAMs), correlated with all...

Food and Drug Omnibus Reform Act: A Critical Course Correction
On December 29, 2022, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 (Public Law No. 117-328) was signed into law, containing the Food and Drug Omnibus Reform Act of 2022 (FDORA), which introduces significant reforms to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).1 This paper highlights select provisions of FDORA that, in our view, have broad implications for the clinical and pharmaceutical sectors, such as promoting clinical trial diversity, revising the accelerated approval process, modernizing clinical trial operations, updating marketing exclusivities, expanding cosmetics regulation, and fortifying infant formula oversight. Actas Dermosifiliogr. 2024 Apr 20:S0001-7310(24)00356-9. doi: 10.1016/j.ad.2024.04.015. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAllergic contact dermatitis induced by the use of ophthalmic topical drugs is one of the most common causes of eyelid dermatitis. The introduction of new formulations, both of active ingredients and excipients, and the lack of marketing in some of them, makes patch testing in patients whose source of contact are topical ophthalmic drugs truly challenging. Across this manuscript, most, if not all, topical ophthalmic drugs used in our national health system have been collected, including information on the al...

Themes in e-liquid concept names as a marketing tactic: evidence from Premarket Tobacco Product Applications in the USA
Concept naming of flavours is popular among e-liquid manufacturers.1–3 Rather than explicitly stating a taste or smell, these names convey aesthetics or sensations (eg, unicorn, frostbite, roadhouse), as well as positive health and lifestyle experiences (eg, relaxed, blissful).4 Concept names are frequently accompanied by colourful packaging and bottle designs that reinforce their connotations.1 2 While concept naming is not novel, its impact on youth appeal, as distinct from the flavours themselves, is understudied.5 Concept naming warrants additional attention following US regulatory developments limiting character...

'Tobacco-free claims in tobacco product marketing in the United States
Tobacco control research, policy and advocacy are replete with ‘tobacco-free’ terminology. For instance, there are tobacco-free initiatives targeting removal of tobacco use, imagery and branding from major entertainment media.1 2 There are also policies promoting tobacco-free college campuses,3 parks,4 pharmacies5 and workplaces6 which help protect the environment from tobacco product litter, reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and denormalise tobacco use. The goals of these and other efforts are to create a tobacco-free generation7 and even a tobacco-free world.8 In recent years, tobacco manufacturers have beg...

Current uncertainties and challenges of publicly available pharmaceutical environmental risk assessment data
Eur J Pharm Sci. 2024 Apr 16;197:106769. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2024.106769. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPharmaceutical residues are widely detected in aquatic environment worldwide mainly arising from human excretions in sewage systems. Presently, publicly available, high quality environmental risk assessment (ERA) data for pharmaceuticals are limited. However, databases like the Swedish Fass offer valuable resources aiding healthcare professionals and environmental scientists in identifying substances of significant concern. In this review, we provide a concise overview of the regulatory ERA process for medicinal products...

Unhealthy Food and Beverage Marketing to Children in the Digital Age: Global Research and Policy Challenges and Priorities
Annu Rev Nutr. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1146/annurev-nutr-062322-014102. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFood and nonalcoholic beverage marketing is implicated in poor diet and obesity in children. The rapid growth and proliferation of digital marketing has resulted in dramatic changes to advertising practices and children's exposure. The constantly evolving and data-driven nature of digital food marketing presents substantial challenges for researchers seeking to quantify the impact on children and for policymakers tasked with designing and implementing restrictive policies. We outline the latest evidence on children's experien...

Adjusting starting points for initial price offers: the example of ibrutinib
This article focuses on the data obtained for ibrutinib, an oral medication for treating hematologic malignancies, which is one of the only drugs reviewed by the committee that also has been selected for Medicare price negotiation. We examine data that can be obtained only from the drug manufacturer that the IRA has explicitly identified as being used to determine the price and suggest potential negotiation strategies for CMS in response.PMID:38603534 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2024.89531 (Source: The American Journal of Managed Care)
