Persistence of the carteolol hydrochloride/latanoprost fixed-combination ophthalmic solution, compared with the other β-blocker/prostanoid FP receptor agonist fixed-combination ophthalmic solutions
ConclusionThe study results suggest that persistence rates vary depending on the BB/FP and CAR/LAT appears to be more persistent than other BB/FP. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Study profile: the Genetics of Glaucoma Study
Purpose Glaucoma, a major cause of irreversible blindness, is a highly heritable human disease. Currently, the majority of the risk genes for glaucoma are unknown. We established the Genetics of Glaucoma Study (GOGS) to identify disease genes and improve genetic prediction of glaucoma risk and response to treatment. Participants More than 5700 participants with glaucoma or a family history of glaucoma were recruited through a media campaign and the Australian Government healthcare service provider, Services Australia, making GOGS one of the largest genetic studies of glaucoma globally. The mean age of the participants was...

New trends towards glaucoma treatment: Topical osmoprotective microemulsions loaded with latanoprost
Ocul Surf. 2023 Jun 7:S1542-0124(23)00055-1. doi: 10.1016/j.jtos.2023.05.013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe chronic use of hypotensive agents eventually leads to ocular surface damage and poor patient compliance during glaucoma management. Thus, new sustained drug delivery systems are needed. This work aimed to develop osmoprotective latanoprost-loaded microemulsion formulations as new potential glaucoma treatments with ocular surface protective properties. The microemulsions were characterized and latanoprost encapsulation efficacy determined. In-vitro tolerance, osmoprotective efficacy, cell internalization as well a...

Screening, characterization, and determination of suspected additives bimatoprost and latanoprost in cosmetics using NMR and LC-MS methods
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2023 May 23. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-04744-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecently, many new types of cosmetic illegal additives have been screened in the market. Most of the new additives were new drugs or analogues with very similar structures to other prohibited additives, which were difficult to be identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) only. Therefore, a new strategy is proposed, which is chromatographic separation combined with nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) structural identification. The suspected samples were screened by ultra-high-performance liquid chroma...

Effects of Ripasudil, a Rho-Kinase Inhibitor, on Scar Formation in a Mouse Model of Filtration Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that ripasudil, ROCK inhibitor may inhibit excessive fibrosis after glaucoma filtering surgery vis inhibition the transdifferentiation of tenon fibroblast into myofibroblast and may have a potential effect as anti-scarring for glaucoma filtration surgery.PMID:37216470 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2217367 (Source: Current Eye Research)

Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma Progression in Glaucoma Patients with Unchanged Topical Treatment over 3 Years - Retrospective Observational Cohort Analysis
CONCLUSION: Both groups had comparable baseline, as well as mean overall IOP. However, the course of IOP levels over time was different in the two groups, showing earlier and more pronounced long-term drift in the prostaglandin analog-treated group. RNFL thickness was comparable at baseline, however, RNFL thinning over time was more pronounced in the prostaglandin analog-treated group. There were no statistical differences between the groups in terms of VF MD at baseline and over time.PMID:37164404 | DOI:10.1055/a-2004-4943 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)
