Effect of topical latanoprost on choroidal thickness and vessel area in Guinea pigs
Exp Eye Res. 2022 Oct 22:109286. doi: 10.1016/j.exer.2022.109286. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to investigate the effect of latanoprost, an ocular hypotensive agent and prostaglandin analog, on choroidal thickness and structure in young adult guinea pigs. Young (three-month-old) guinea pigs (n = 10) underwent daily monocular treatment with topical 0.005% latanoprost for 2 weeks, followed by a washout period of 2 weeks. Tonometry (iCare) and retinoscopy were undertaken to monitor intraocular pressure (IOP) and refractive error (recorded as spherical equivalent refractive error; SER), respectively....

Clinical pharmacology and pharmacogenetics of prostaglandin analogues in glaucoma
Glaucoma is the main cause of irreversible visual loss worldwide, and comprises a group of progressive, age-related, and chronic optic neuropathies. Prostaglandin analogs are considered a first-line treatment in the management of glaucoma and have the best efficacy in reducing intraocular pressure. When comparing these therapeutic agents between them, long-term therapy with 0.03% bimatoprost is the most effective followed by treatment with 0.005% latanoprost and 0.004% travoprost. The prevalence of adverse events is lower for latanoprost than for other prostaglandin analogs. However, some patients do not respond to the tre...

Effects of PPAR- γ and RXR-α on mouse meibomian gland epithelial cells during inflammation induced by latanoprost
Exp Eye Res. 2022 Sep 20:109251. doi: 10.1016/j.exer.2022.109251. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of latanoprost on the secretion of cytokines and chemokines from meibomian gland epithelial cells, and to evaluate the modulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) and retinoid X receptor α (RXR-α) during latanoprost-induced inflammation. Mouse meibomian gland epithelial cells were cultured in proliferation and differentiation medium, respectively. Cells were exposed to latanoprost, rosiglitazone (PPAR-γ agonist), or LG100268 (RXR-α agonist), re...

Comparison of netarsudil/latanoprost therapy with latanoprost monotherapy for lowering intraocular pressure: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Netarsudil/latanoprost FDC therapy has a significantly greater effect on reducing IOP than latanoprost alone. The symptoms of CH were mostly mild, and only a few glaucoma patients discontinued the medication owing to CH in earlier clinical trials. Therefore, it would be beneficial to consider the administration of netarsudil/latanoprost FDC therapy in patients with glaucoma.PMID:35989070 | DOI:10.3341/kjo.2022.0061 (Source: Korean Journal of Ophthalmology : KJO)
