Association of Commonly Prescribed Antepartum Medications and Incidence of Orofacial Clefting
CONCLUSION: New associations between commonly prescribed antepartum medications and orofacial clefting were found. These findings should be confirmed as causality is not assessed in this report. Practitioners should be aware of the potential increased risk associated with these medications.PMID:38449319 | DOI:10.1177/10556656241237679 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Pregnancy, antiseizure medications and unexplained intrauterine foetal death
CONCLUSIONS: Although it is possible that prenatal ASM exposure may increase the risk of IUFD, other non-pharmacological factors are more relevant to the occurrence to IUFD in pregnant WWE.PMID:38442517 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109724 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Teratogenicity of zonisamide and other little-used antiseizure medications
Over more than two decades, a very considerable majority of the pregnancies of Australian women with epilepsy that have been enrolled in the Raoul Wallenberg Australian Pregnancy Register of Antiepileptic Drugs (APR) have been managed with a relatively small number of the antiseizure medications (ASMs) that are available in the country. The most frequently used ASMs have been carbamazepine (CBZ), lamotrigine (LTG), levetiracetam (LEV) and valproate (VPA) ([8]b). Topiramate (TPM) and clonazepam (CZP) have had less extensive use ([8]b). (Source: Seizure: European Journal of Epilepsy)

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the predominant cause of dementia and a significant contributor to morbidity among the elderly. Patients diagnosed with AD face an increased risk of epileptic seizures.AREAS COVERED: Herein, the authors review the challenges in the diagnosis of seizures in patients with AD, the risks of seizures related to medications used in AD and the pharmacological treatment of seizures in AD. The authors also provide the reader with their expert opinion on the subject matter and future pers...
