Dolichoectatic Basilar Artery Causing Trigeminal Neuralgia
A patient in their late 60s presented to our community neurology clinic because of a 1-year history of paroxysms of “shooting” pain in the right maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve (V2), occurring hundreds of times a day, made worse with chewing, drinking, and brushing teeth. Multiple medications for neuropathic pain due to trigeminal neuralgia (TN) were trialed, with partial response to lamotrigine. (Source: Mayo Clinic Proceedings)

Epilepsy in childhood and school performance: a nation-wide cohort study
In conclusion, childhood epilepsy was as sociated with impaired academic performance throughout schooling, which suggest that there is a widespread need for educational support of children with epilepsy, even when the child has no other comorbidities and when the epilepsy appears well-managed. Lamotrigine add-on therapy for drug-resistant focal epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: Lamotrigine as an add-on treatment for drug-resistant focal seizures is probably effective for reducing seizure frequency. Certain adverse effects (ataxia, dizziness, diplopia, and nausea) are probably more likely to occur with lamotrigine compared with placebo. There is probably little or no difference in the number of people who withdraw from treatment with lamotrigine versus placebo. The trials were of relatively short duration and provided no long-term evidence. In addition, some trials had few participants. Further trials are needed to assess the long-term effects of lamotrigine and to compare lamotrigine...

Priapism associated with anti-seizure medications: a pharmacovigilance study and a review of published cases
CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified signals for priapism for several anti-seizure medications, but these results need to be confirmed in well-designed pharmacoepidemiological studies.PMID:38062555 | DOI:10.1080/14740338.2023.2293208 (Source: Expert Opinion on Drug Safety)

Characterization of drug-induced liver injury associated with drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms in two prospective DILI registries
Arch Toxicol. 2023 Dec 5. doi: 10.1007/s00204-023-03630-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIdiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) associated with drug reactions with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) is poorly characterized among patients of Western countries. We aimed to comprehensively assess the clinical characteristics, outcomes, and causative agents in a prospective, well-vetted cohort of DILI patients with DRESS (DILI-DRESS). We identified 53 DILI-DRESS cases from the Spanish DILI Registry and the Latin American DILI Network. For comparison purposes, we defined a group of DILI patients (n = 881). DILI-...
