A common finding in foveal-sparing extensive macular atrophy with pseudodrusen implicates basal laminar deposits
Conclusion: Our findings presented distinct multimodal imaging features in eyes with reticular pseudodrusen depicting a peculiar phenotype of rapidly progressing atrophy in midlife. The disease spectrum may include other forms of geographic atrophy allied by thickened basal laminar deposits. (Source: RETINA)

SUBRETINAL DRUSENOID DEPOSITS AND SOFT DRUSEN: Are They Markers for Distinct Retinal Diseases?
Conclusion: Subjects with subretinal drusenoid deposits and non-SDD subjects have distinct systemic associations and serum and genetic risks. Subretinal drusenoid deposits are associated with CVD and stroke, ARMS2 risk, and lower high-density lipoprotein; non-SDDs are associated with higher high-density lipoprotein, CFH risk, and two lipid risk genes. These and other distinct associations suggest that these lesions are markers for distinct diseases. (Source: RETINA)

Assessment of fluorescein angiography nonperfusion in eyes with diabetic retinopathy using ultrawide field retinal imaging
Purpose: Evaluate association of retinal nonperfusion (NP) on ultrawide field (UWF) fluorescein angiography (FA) with diabetic retinopathy (DR) severity and predominantly peripheral lesions (PPL). Methods: Multicenter observational study, 652 eyes (361 participants) having nonproliferative DR (NPDR) without center-involved diabetic macular edema in at least one eye. Baseline 200° UWF-color and UWF-FA images were graded by a central reading center for color-PPL and FA-PPL, respectively. UWF-FA was graded for NP index within concentric zones: posterior pole (15 mm). Results: Baseline Early Treatment Diabet...

VITRECTOMY FOR DIABETIC COMPLICATIONS: A Pooled Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials Using Modern Techniques and Equipment
Conclusion: This study reports updated clinical outcomes in patients undergoing PPV for proliferative diabetic retinopathy–related complications which compares favorably with the age before small-gauge PPV and antivascular endothelial growth factor pretreatment. (Source: RETINA)

Outcomes of retropupillary iris claw intraocular lens implantation combined with pars plana vitrectomy
Purpose: To report 12-month visual outcomes, incidence of intraocular pressure (IOP) changes and postoperative complications after pars plana vitrectomy with retropupillary implantation of an iris claw intraocular lens (IOL) in aphakic eyes after complicated cataract surgery and eyes with a dislocation of the IOL. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of eyes undergoing implantation of an iris claw IOL combined with pars plana vitrectomy from 1st of January 2009 until 30th of June 2018 after complicated cataract extraction with capsular loss (Group A) or dislocation of an IOL (Group B). Corrected distance vi...

PNEUMATIC VITREOLYSIS VERSUS PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY IN FOCAL SYMPTOMATIC VITREOMACULAR TRACTION SYNDROME: A Randomized Trial
Purpose: To compare pneumatic vitreolysis and pars plana vitrectomy in the management of focal symptomatic vitreomacular traction (VMT). Method: Patients aged 18 years or older, with idiopathic focal symptomatic VMT and best-corrected visual acuity (Source: RETINA)

Comparison between scleral buckling and vitrectomy in the onset of cystoid macular edema and epiretinal membrane after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair
Conclusion: The incidence of CME after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair was higher in patients who underwent PPV, either alone or combined with phacoemulsification, than in those treated with SB. Epiretinal membrane development was correlated to older age, regardless of the surgical procedure. (Source: RETINA)

Air versus sulfur hexafluoride gas tamponade in vitrectomy for uncomplicated retinal detachment with inferior breaks
Conclusion: No significant differences were observed in single-surgery anatomical success rates and final visual recovery when comparing air with SF6 gas tamponade in pars plana vitrectomy for primary uncomplicated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with inferior breaks. (Source: RETINA)

Association of choroidal thickness with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair
Conclusion: Eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment demonstrated thinning in the SFCT after vitrectomy surgery. Eyes with recurrent retinal detachment presented with a thicker choroid at baseline. Thicker SFCT at presentation may play a role in retinal redetachment. (Source: RETINA)

Factors affecting retinal redetachment after silicone oil removal for rhegmatogenous retinal detachments
Purpose: To report factors affecting the retinal redetachment rate after silicone oil removal (SOR) following rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair. Methods: Retrospective cohort study from December 1, 2014, to March 1, 2020, of 205 consecutive patients treated for RRD with silicone oil (SO) tamponade and subsequent SOR with at least 6-month follow-up. Primary outcome measure was the rate of retinal redetachment after SOR. Results: The retinal redetachment rate after SOR was 18.5%. Preoperative macula and lens status, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, previous retinectomy, retinal detachment size,...

Inner and outer choroidal changes in the fellow eye of patients with unilateral central serous chorioretinopathy
Purpose: To quantitatively evaluate the inner and outer choroidal changes in the fellow eyes of patients with unilateral central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Methods: We analyzed data from patients with a diagnosis of unilateral CSC who had structural optical coherence tomography (OCT) and swept-source OCT angiography obtained. An additional group of age-matched healthy patients was included for comparison. The main outcome measures were: (1) choriocapillaris flow deficits' quantitative metrics; (2) choroidal luminal (LCA) and stromal (SCA) areas; and (3) choroidal vascularity index. Results: Fellow un...

Regional scleral thickness as a risk factor for central serous chorioretinopathy
Purpose: To evaluate regional sclera thicknesses as possible risk factors for central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Methods: Patients with CSC and controls were evaluated with contact B-scan ultrasonography using a 20 Mhz concentric phased array ultrasound unit and enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography to measure the scleral thickness at the equator and posterior pole. The resultant data were evaluated using univariate analysis and generalized estimating equations. Results: There were 40 patients with CSC with a mean age of 58 years and 23 controls with a mean age of 60.7 years (P = 0.31)....

PREDICTIVE FACTORS OF SPONTANEOUS RELEASE OF VITREOMACULAR TRACTION: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Smaller VMT diameter, epiretinal membrane absence, and right eye involvement may support spontaneous VMT release. If patients have tolerable symptoms, clinicians may consider observation in patients with these predictive factors. (Source: RETINA)
