Is trait rumination associated with affective reactivity to the menstrual cycle? A prospective analysis
CONCLUSIONS: An individual's trait-like propensity to engage in rumination may not be a valid treatment target in premenstrual mood disorders. State-like changes in rumination should still be further explored, and well-powered prospective studies should explore other cognitive and behavioral factors to inform development of targeted psychological treatments for patients with cyclical affective symptoms.PMID:38284220 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003793 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Assessing expectancy and suggestibility in a trial of escitalopram v. psilocybin for depression
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, our results suggest that psychedelic therapy may be less vulnerable to expectancy biases than previously suspected. The relationship between baseline trait suggestibility and response to psilocybin therapy implies that highly suggestible individuals may be primed for response to this treatment.PMID:38247730 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003653 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Psychiatric in-patient care in England: as safe as it can be? An examination of in-patient suicide between 2009 and 2020
CONCLUSIONS: In-patient suicide has significantly fallen since 2009, suggesting patient safety may have improved. The recent slowdown in the fall in rates, however, highlights that renewed preventative efforts are needed. These should include a greater focus on women, younger and older patients, and those with affective disorder. Careful reviews prior to granting leave are important to ensure a safe transition into the community.PMID:38213183 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003628 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

The causal association between maternal depression, anxiety, and infection in pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders among 410 461 children: a population study using quasi-negative control cohorts and sibling analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Maternal risk appears to be unspecific to pregnancy: our study provided no evidence of a specific, and therefore causal, link between in-utero exposure to infection, common mental illness, and later development of NDD.PMID:38205522 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003604 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

The societal impact of individual placement and support implementation on employment outcomes for young adults receiving temporary health-related welfare benefits: a difference-in-differences study

How does cognitive behavior therapy for dissociative seizures work? A mediation analysis of the CODES trial
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings largely confirmed the logic model underlying the development of CBT for patients with DS. Interventions could be additionally developed to specifically address beliefs about emotions to assess whether it improves outcomes.PMID:38197148 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003665 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Early life stress in relation with risk of overweight, depression, and their comorbidity across adulthood: findings from a British birth cohort
CONCLUSION: Our study provides evidence on the link and potential mechanisms between ACEs and the co-occurrence of mental and physical diseases throughout the life-course. We suggest addressing ACEs in intervention strategies and public policies to go beyond single disease prevention.PMID:38197250 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003823 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Reward anticipation-related neural activation following cued reinforcement in adults with psychotic psychopathology and biological relatives
CONCLUSIONS: Findings implicate less activation and connectivity in reward processing brain regions across a spectrum of disorders involving psychotic psychopathology. Specifically, aberrations in striatal and insular activity during reward anticipation seen in schizophrenia are partially shared with other forms of psychotic psychopathology and associated with genetic liability for psychosis.PMID:38197294 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003343 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Disentangling pain and fatigue in chronic fatigue syndrome: a resting state connectivity study before and after cognitive behavioral therapy
CONCLUSIONS: These results provide insight into the dissociable neural mechanisms underlying fatigue and pain symptoms in ME/CFS and how they are affected by CBT in successfully treated patients. Further investigation of how and in whom behavioral and biomedical treatments affect these networks is warranted to improve and individualize existing or new treatments for ME/CFS.PMID:38193344 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003690 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

The temporal association between social isolation, distress, and psychotic experiences in individuals at clinical high-risk for psychosis
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that SI and PEs are not directly related on a moment-to-moment level, but a negative emotional state when alone does contribute to the risk of PEs. These findings highlight the role of affective wellbeing during early-stage psychosis development.PMID:38179659 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003598 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

The mental health of Australians bereaved during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic: a latent class analysis
