The association between neighborhood-level social fragmentation and distressing psychotic-like experiences in early adolescence: the moderating role of close friends
CONCLUSIONS: Greater neighborhood social fragmentation is associated with higher levels of distressing PLE, particularly among those with fewer close friends. Further research is needed to disentangle aspects of the interaction between neighborhood characteristics and the quality of social interactions that may contribute to psychosis, which would have implications for developing effective interventions at the individual and community levels.PMID:38362835 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000278 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

The genetic epidemiology of schizotypal personality disorder
CONCLUSIONS: Our results not only support the designation of SPD as a schizophrenia spectrum disorder but also suggest potentially important etiologic links between SPD and ASD and, to a lesser extent, ADHD, OCD, and MD.PMID:38362845 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000230 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Frequency-dependent alterations of global signal topography in patients with major depressive disorder
CONCLUSION: The GS and its spatiotemporal effects on local signals were weakened in patients with MDD, which may impair inter-regional synchronization and related functions. Patients with severe depression may use the compensatory mechanism to make up for the functional impairments.PMID:38362834 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000254 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Enlarged pituitary gland volume: a possible state rather than trait marker of psychotic disorders
CONCLUSIONS: Although pituitary volumes were not increased in psychotic disorders, larger size may be a marker associated with more severe symptoms in the progression of psychosis. This finding helps clarify previous inconsistent reports and highlights the need for further research into pituitary gland-related factors in individuals with psychosis.PMID:38357733 | DOI:10.1017/S003329172300380X (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Interplay of polygenic liability with birth-related, somatic, and psychosocial factors in anorexia nervosa risk: a nationwide study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide evidence for interactions between AN PRS and certain risk-factors, illustrating potential diverse risk pathways to AN diagnosis.PMID:38347808 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000175 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

A randomized controlled trial of a digital cognitive-behavioral therapy program (COMPASS) for managing depression and anxiety related to living with a long-term physical health condition
CONCLUSION: Compared with SCS, COMPASS digital therapeutic with minimal therapist input reduces psychological distress at post-treatment (12-weeks). COMPASS offers a potentially scalable implementation model for health services but its translation to these contexts needs further evaluating.TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT04535778.PMID:38350600 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003756 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Age dependent effects of early intervention in borderline personality disorder in adolescents
CONCLUSIONS: Early intervention appears effective across adolescence, but manifests differently: preventing the normative increase of BPD pathology expected in younger adolescents, and significantly decreasing BPD pathology in older adolescents. The question as to whether developmentally adapted therapeutic interventions could lead to an even increased benefit for younger adolescents, should be explored in future studies.PMID:38343374 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000126 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

20-year neurocognitive development following a schizophrenia spectrum disorder and associations with symptom severity and functional outcomes
CONCLUSION: Our findings support the notion of different schizophrenia subtypes with varying trajectories. Neurocognitive impairment at the 20-year follow-up was associated with other poor outcomes, highlighting the importance of treatments aimed at improving neurocognition in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.PMID:38343378 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000096 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Higher emotion regulation flexibility predicts more stable negative emotions and faster affective recovery in early psychosis: an experience sampling study
CONCLUSIONS: The current study identified unique within-person and between-person links between ER flexibility and dynamics of NA in early psychosis. These findings further provide evidence for ER flexibility in early psychosis, emphasizing the adaptive nature of regulatory flexibility in relation to reduced instability in NA and faster recovery from NA in everyday life.PMID:38343379 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000151 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Genetic and non-genetic predictors of risk for opioid dependence
CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest an interplay between genetics and psychosocial environment in contributing to OD risk. While PRS alone do not yet have useful clinical predictive utility, psychosocial factors may help enhance prediction. These findings could inform more targeted clinical and policy interventions to help address this public health crisis.PMID:38317430 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723003732 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Association of psychiatric disorders with clinical diagnosis of long COVID in US veterans
CONCLUSIONS: Psychiatric disorder diagnoses were associated with increased long COVID diagnosis risk in VA patients, with the strongest associations observed in younger individuals. Improved surveillance, treatment, and prevention for COVID-19 and its long-term sequelae should be considered for individuals with psychiatric conditions.PMID:38311905 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000114 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Screen time, brain network development and socio-emotional competence in childhood: moderation of associations by parent-child reading
CONCLUSION: Our study identified emotion processing-cognitive control network integration as a plausible biological pathway linking screen time in infancy and later socio-emotional competence. We also provided novel evidence for the role of parent-child reading in moderating the association between screen time and topological brain restructuring in early childhood.PMID:38314509 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000084 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Cross-cultural validation of the revised Green et al., paranoid thoughts scale
CONCLUSION: We found sufficient invariance for the persecutory thoughts scale, which is of substantial practical importance, as it is used for the screening of clinical paranoia. A direct comparison of the ideas of reference sum-scores between cultures, however, may lead to an over-estimation of these milder forms of paranoia in some (non-western) cultures.PMID:38314511 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000072 (Source: Psychological Medicine)
