Implementation of an Innovative Learning Experience to Address Vaccine Hesitancy
Nurs Educ Perspect. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001261. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent vaccine hesitancy highlighted the need for additional learning experiences for nursing students to address person-centered care and communication. This project aimed to employ a three-step service-learning experience consisting of town hall meetings, motivational interviewing training, and rural health fairs to address vaccine hesitancy in communities surrounding the college. Evaluation of the project revealed satisfaction and increased confidence among participating nursing students.PMI...

Promoting Retention of Native American Nursing Students: Insights From a Qualitative Study
CONCLUSION: The study found that social support, financial aid, and cultural awareness are essential for Native American nursing students to succeed. Limited resources and online learning challenges are barriers that need to be addressed. Tailored support systems, financial assistance, and culturally responsive education can enhance retention and success rates.PMID:38595210 | DOI:10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001263 (Source: Nursing Education Perspectives)

Prevalence of Low or Very Low Food Security in Undergraduate Nursing Students
This study sought to identify the prevalence of food insecurity in baccalaureate nursing students. Data on demographics, perceived stress, food security, and food access were collected using a survey from 201 baccalaureate nursing students. Nearly 43 percent of students reported food insecurity within the last year. Students reporting food insecurity reported higher levels of perceived stress (p < .01). Findings support that food insecurity is prevalent in nursing students. An increase in awareness, assessment, and efforts to provide early interventions should be considered.PMID:38595215 | DOI:10.1097/01.NEP.00000000000...

A New Look at Resilience in Nursing Students: Stress, Social Media, and Student Athletes
This study examined levels of resilience and identified related factors in prelicensure nursing students. Data were collected via an online survey that included a descriptive questionnaire with resilience and stress scales. Significant findings include negative relationships between resilience and stress, and resilience and social media use; positive relationships between stress and social media use, specifically TikTok use; and high resilience levels in student athletes. Specific implications for nursing education and future research are discussed.PMID:38588465 | DOI:10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001260 (Source: Nursing Education Perspectives)

Telehealth Virtual Simulation Across the Family Nurse Practitioner Curriculum
Nurs Educ Perspect. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001262. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe American Association of Colleges of Nursing recognizes telehealth education as an essential aspect of nurse practitioner (NP) education because it increases accessibility to health care. Studies reported in the literature have focused on NP telehealth simulation, but findings for the inclusion of simulation in multiple courses throughout the curriculum are scarce. This pre- and post-survey design study aimed to evaluate family nurse practitioner students' perceptions of knowledge, confidence, and attitudes regarding tele...

Development of a Telehealth Simulation Using Intraprofessional Collaboration
Nurs Educ Perspect. 2024 Mar 20. doi: 10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001251. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTelehealth allows access to high-quality, holistic patient care, including diagnosis, interventions, treatments, monitoring, and patient education. As the use of telehealth continues to increase, faculty considered the need for entry-level nursing students to be introduced to telehealth and its services. Faculty from the medical-surgical II and mental health courses developed a learning experience for students that blends concepts from both courses, as patients often present with multiple problems. The telehealth experience...
