Tryptophan and Kynurenine Metabolites: Are They Related to Depression?
Conclusions: These findings are opposite to expectations and not consistent with a hypothesized increased conversion from TRY to KYN in depressed subjects. In addition, we found no evidence of altered production of serotonin as 5-HIAA concentration was unchanged. None of the observed changes was associated with a history of suicide attempt.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Definition of Late Onset Alzheimer ’s Disease and Anticipation Effect of Genome-Wide Significant Risk Variants: Pilot Study of the APOE e4 Allele
Conclusions: This study showed that the mixture analysis can refine the ideal cut-off for defining LOAD as a homogeneous genetic entity. We also validated the e4 allele anticipatory effect only in LOAD. In summary, the tool developed in this study is a sophisticated statistical pipeline to analyze the AAO in genome-wide association studies of AD, to find new molecular targets as a new line of translational research to foster drug discovery.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Assessment of Placental Cortisol Pathway Gene Expression in Term Pregnant Women with Anxiety
Discussion: Overall, the strongest correlation was found between a decrease in placentalPER1 expression and increased anxiety scores. Labour status was found to have a profound effect on mRNA expression. The placental samples obtained from women following labour produced greater numbers of significant differences in mRNA species expression suggesting that in long-standing anxiety the placenta may respond differently under conditions of chronic stress.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Functional Connectivity of the Caudate in Schizophrenia Evaluated with Simultaneous Resting-State Functional MRI and Electroencephalography Recordings
Conclusions: Increased FC in the caudate may represent aberrant between-network FC resulting from the disruption of segregation between networks.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Temperament and Character Inventory in Bipolar Disorder versus Healthy Controls and Modulatory Effects of 3 Key Functional Gene Variants
Conclusion: COMT rs4680 may modulate NS in males in the general population. This effect was not detected in BD patients, probably because BD alters the neurobiological basis of some TCI dimensions. BDNF rs6265 seems to modulate St TCI dimension only in BD patients, possibly modulating the previously reported association between rs6265 and BD treatment response. Further studies are needed to confirm our findings.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Effects of Three Months of Aerobic Endurance Training on Motor Cortical Excitability in Schizophrenia Patients and Healthy Subjects
Conclusion: Regular ergometer training over 3 months increases motor cortical inhibition as displayed by an increase in CSP. The increase in S1mV may also indicate a higher degree of inhibition after the intervention. We could not establish a difference between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls. Due to the limited sample size, our results have to be considered as preliminary and need to be replicated in future trials.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Distinguishing Subgroups Based on Psychomotor Functioning among Patients with Major Depressive Disorder
Conclusions: The depression subtypes NMD, MD with psychotic symptoms, and MD without psychotic symptoms are not marked by increasing psychomotor retardation, possibly because psychomotor disturbance in MD with psychotic symptoms often consists of agitation rather than retardation, or a mixture of the two. However, psychomotor functioning as measured by actigraphy can be used to distinguish between NMD patients and MD patients.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Association between Polymorphisms of the DRD2 and ANKK1 Genes and Suicide Attempt: A Preliminary Case-Control Study in a Mexican Population
Conclusion: Our results suggest that the rs1800497 variant of theANKK1 gene could increase the risk of suicide attempt in a Mexican population. However, further studies using larger samples are necessary to obtain more conclusive results.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

A Partial Response at Week 4 Can Predict Subsequent Outcome during Lamotrigine Augmentation Therapy in Treatment-Resistant Depressive Disorder: A Preliminary Study
Conclusion: The present study suggests that a partial response at week 4 can predict subsequent outcome at week 8 during lamotrigine augmentation therapy in patients with treatment-resistant depressive disorder, and that the absence of a partial improvement at week 4 is highly predictive of nonresponse.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Long-Term Immune Alterations Accompanying Chronic Posttraumatic Stress Disorder following Exposure to Suicide Bomb Terror Incidents during Childhood
Conclusion: Chronic immune alterations may participate in inflammatory activation and signal to the CNS through the neurovascular unit, as well as modulate the neuroendocrine axis. Better characterization and understanding of these preliminary findings may point to diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers and potentially elucidate mechanistic involvement of immune activation in PTSD.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)
