Alzheimer ’s Disease and Neurotransmission Gene Variants: Focus on Their Effects on Psychiatric Comorbidities and Inflammatory Parameters
Discussion: Our data support the role ofCOMT, and particularly of rs4680, in the pathogenesis of AD. Furthermore, theSIRT1 gene seems to modulate depressive symptomatology in the AD population.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

< b > < i > FKBP5 < /i > < /b > Gene Variants May Modulate Depressive Features in Bipolar Disorder
Conclusions: rs3800373FKBP5 may increase the risk of developing predominantly depressed BPD, probably through the creation of an enhancer consensus sequence in the 3 ′UTR of the gene, thus potentially increasing its expression. This finding seems to be partially supported by literature data, which evidenced increased levels of FKBP5 in psychiatric subjects.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Reduced Sensitivity to Non-Fear-Related Stimulus Changes in Panic Disorder
Panic disorder (PD) is associated with increased body vigilance and reduced cognitive resources directed at non-fear-related stimuli, particularly in the absence of stimulus-rich environments. To date, only few studies have investigated whether this deficit in PD is reflected in reduced mismatch negativity (MMN), an event-related potential indexing preattentive sensitivity to unexpected stimulus changes. We tested 35 patients affected by PD and 42 matched healthy controls in an oddball paradigm, using frequency and duration deviant stimuli to measure auditory MMN. PD patients displayed reduced duration MMN amplitudes in co...

A Systematic Review of the Effect of Probiotic Supplementation on Schizophrenia Symptoms
Conclusion: Based on current evidence, limited inferences can be made regarding the efficacy of probiotics in schizophrenia. Although probiotics may have other benefits, for example to regulate bowel movement and ameliorate the metabolic effects of antipsychotic medications, the clinical utility of probiotics in the treatment of schizophrenia patients remains to be validated by future clinical studies.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Compared to Controls, Individuals with Lichen Planopilaris Have More Depression, a Lower Self-Esteem, and a Lower Quality of Life
Conclusions: Compared to controls, and irrespectively of the illness duration, individuals with LPP reported a lower quality of life and a lower self-esteem, and experts ’ ratings observed higher scores of depression. Experts treating individuals with LPP might pay special attention to the individuals’ mental health status.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Meta-Analysis of Neuropsychological Studies in Panic Disorder Patients: Evidence of Impaired Performance during the Emotional Stroop Task
Conclusion: This meta-analysis included a small number of studies, which may have introduced bias into the analysis. However, there is some evidence of impairment of neurocognitive functions in PD when performing the emotional Stroop task. Furthermore, the paucity of studies evaluating neurocognition in PD suggests the need for further research in this field in order to draw meaningful conclusions.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Diagnostic Utility of Sodium Lactate Infusion and CO < sub > 2 < /sub > -35% Inhalation for Panic Disorder
Laboratory measures have played an integral role in diagnosing pathology; however, compared to traditional medicine, psychiatric medicine has lagged behind in using such measures. A growing body of literature has begun to examine the viability and development of different laboratory measures in order to diagnose psychopathologies. The present review examines the current state of development of both sodium lactate infusion and CO2-35% inhalation as potential ancillary measures to diagnose panic disorder (PD). A previously established 3-step approach to identifying laboratory-based diagnostic tests was applied to available l...

Moderator Effects of Life Stress on the Association between MAOA-uVNTR, Depression, and Burnout
Conclusions: The results suggest a more pronounced reactivity to adverse environmental factors in carriers of the MAO-H allele. Especially the effect of life stress and MAOA-uVNTR on burnout should be independently replicated in the future as this is the first study showing this association.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Postural Control and Verbal and Visual Working Memory Correlates in Nonclinical Psychosis
Conclusion: These findings suggest that CTCC circuit abnormalities are present across the lower end of the psychosis spectrum and that they may be contributing to a range of motor and cognitive behaviors seen in the population. However, evidence suggests that the signs are subtle, and that sensitive assessment devices and challenging conditions may be necessary for detection.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)

Chris Cornell, the Black Hole Sun, and the Seasonality of Suicide
Conclusions: Cornell, in his life and music, left us with a novel and important hypothesis about the spring seasonality of suicide, namely, that the yearly suicide risk becomes maximal when winter turns to spring and there emerges a deadly mixed mood state under a May photoperiod, i.e., the suicide risk is maximal when a Black Hole Sun occurs in May. It is hoped that Cornell ’s legacy and sensitive hypothesis inspire research into the etiology and treatment of the spring seasonality of suicide risk and mixed mood states.Limitations: The Cornell hypothesis was formulated based in part on several speculative inferences reg...

Investigation of the Gut Microbiome in Patients with Schizophrenia and Clozapine-Induced Weight Gain: Protocol and Clinical Characteristics of First Patient Cohorts
This study will contribute to elucidating the role of the gut microbiome in schizophrenia and metabolic side effects. In addition, its results may help to explore potential therapeutic targets for antipsychotic-induced metabolic side effects.Neuropsychobiology (Source: Neuropsychobiology)
