Fever and Neutropenia Can Be a Risk to the Child ’s Life
Lee and colleagues report a 39.4% rate of grade 3 or 4 neutropenia following 171 cycles of intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) administered to 49 patients with retinoblastoma. The most recent version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) classifies grade 3 neutropenia as an absolute neutrophil count of 500 to less than 1000 and grade 4 as an absolute neutrophil count of less than 500. Most cycles (72%) in this retrospective single-institution case series used triple drug therapy with melphalan, topotecan, and carboplatin. Multivariate regression analysis showed more grade 3 or 4 neutropenia with highe...

Risk of New Retinal Vascular Occlusion After Messenger RNA COVID-19 Vaccination Within Aggregated Electronic Health Record Data —Reply
In Reply We appreciate the letters regarding our article by Dorney et al in which messenger RNA (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccinations were not associated with retinal vascular occlusions (RVO). To summarize, the concerns with our study are in relation to Li and colleagues ’ comparable article, our choice of a 21-day time frame and the association between first and second vaccination, evaluation of confounder variables, and control group selection. Risk of New Retinal Vascular Occlusion After mRNA COVID-19 Vaccination Within Aggregated Electronic Health Record Data
To the Editor We have several comments regarding the article by Dorney et al. First, the study investigated the potential link between messenger RNA (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccination and the risk of retinal vein occlusion (RVO) through a retrospective cohort design involving 4 cohort groups. Risk of New Retinal Vascular Occlusion After mRNA COVID-19 Vaccination Within Aggregated Electronic Health Record Data
To the Editor We read with great interest a recent study by Dorney et al, concluding that there was no association between messenger RNA (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccination and newly diagnosed retinal vascular occlusion (RVO) with similar rates compared with those following influenza and tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccines. However, we have several methodological concerns and suggestions. (Source: JAMA Ophthalmology)
