Revisiting the History of Odontoma, with Special Reference to Its Original Illustration
ConclusionIn view of their fundamental achievements, the names of Wedl, Salter, Broca and Bland Sutton have been closely associated with the true history of odontoma. (Source: Head and Neck Pathology)

Challenging Tumor Heterogeneity with HER2, p16 and Somatostatin Receptor 2 Expression in a Case of EBV-Associated Lymphoepithelial Carcinoma of the Salivary Gland
ConclusionThese findings suggest tumor heterogeneity and lack of genomic aberrations in EBV-associated LECSGs. The heterogenous and unusual immunohistochemical features explain the diagnostic difficulties and simultaneously extend the immunophenotype spectrum of this tumor entity. Qualitative Assessment of Collagen and Elastic Fibers in Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF), OSMF with Dysplasia and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising from OSMF: A Histochemical Study
ConclusionWith advancement of stage there is increased collagenization of OSMF, as the condition acquires dysplastic changes and turns malignant, microenvironment alters resulting in increased activity of collagenases. However, the arrangement of more resistant elastic fibres depicts the better outcome, once OSMF shows malignant transformation, limiting locoregional and distant spread. Human Papillomavirus-Associated Oral Epithelial Dysplasia: Report of 5 Illustrative Cases from Latin America
ConclusionThis represents the first series of HPV-OED from Latin America; most cases presented as well-demarcated papillary white plaques affecting the buccal mucosa and commissure of HIV-positive middle-aged men, two of them exhibiting peripheral pigmentation caused by reactive melanocytes. The typical microscopic findings of HPV-OED were observed in all cases, which also showed strong p16 positivity in a continuous band through the full thickness of the epithelium and high Ki67. Salivary Duct Carcinoma Arising in a Warthin Tumor of the Parotid Gland: A Rare Case Report with Review of Literature and PD-L1 Expression
We describe an extremely rare case of salivary duct carcinoma arising in a Warthin tumo r in a 64-year-old male. Patient presented with an enlarging left parotid mass, biopsy of which showed salivary duct carcinoma. He subsequently underwent left parotidectomy along with left level II–IV lymph node dissection. Histology revealed both in situ as well as invasive salivary duct carcinom a arising from Warthin tumor. Immunohistochemistry showed tumor cells positive for CK7, AR, and GATA3, while p63 highlighted the myoepithelial cell layer in the in situ component. Her2 was 2+ by immunohistochemistry. In addition, PD-L1 IHC...

Ocular Crystal-Storing Histiocytosis with Co-existing MALT Lymphoma —A Rare Case with Cytologic and Heretofore Not Reported Findings on Frozen Section
ConclusionCSH is a challenging diagnosis to make on frozen section. The artifacts that preclude its recognition, as well as differential diagnoses of this entity in the head and neck are discussed. (Source: Head and Neck Pathology)

Macrofollicular Architecture in Invasive Encapsulated Follicular Variant of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Pitfall in Thyroid Practice
ConclusionsMacrofollicular architecture in invasive encapsulated follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma is a major pitfall in thyroid oncology practice. Long-standing disease, and ultrasonographic and cytological features that overlap with benign disease, often lead to underdiagnosis during pre-operative evaluation. As patients may consequently develop distant metastases and have inadequate treatment response, there is a need for more vigilant understanding of the spectrum of macrofollicular thyroid disease for accurate diagnosis.ETV6::NTRK3 or other fusions, when found, present opportunities for targeted therap...

Squamous Odontogenic Tumor in the Posterior Region of Maxilla
AbstractSquamous odontogenic tumor (SOT) is a rare benign but locally infiltrative tumor often misdiagnosed as other entities, such as ameloblastoma and squamous cell carcinoma, due to overlapping morphological findings. We document here the clinicopathological and imaging findings of an aggressive intraosseous SOT in the posterior left region of the maxilla in a 25-year-old male patient. On intraoral examination, the tumor extended from the region of the left lateral incisor to the upper left premolar and was covered by reddish mucosa, with discrete areas of ulceration. Imaging exams revealed an osteolytic lesion causing ...

HPV-Associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Eyelid: Diagnostic Utility of p16 Immunohistochemistry and mRNA In Situ Hybridization
ConclusionThe prevalence of HR-HPV in eyelid SCC is low in Indian patients. HPV-associated SCC may mimic commoner eyelid carcinomas as it lacks overt keratinization. In basaloid-appearing eyelid carcinomas, p16 immunopositivity should be followed by reflex HR-HPV mRNA ISH, as p16 immunohistochemistry alone has low specificity. The prognostic role, if any, of HPV association needs further evaluation. (Source: Head and Neck Pathology)

Clear Cell Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Maxillary Gingiva Associated with PIK3CA and HRAS Mutations: Report of a Case and Literature Review
ConclusionsWe report a case of CCSCC of the oral cavity withPIK3CA andHRAS mutations. The identification ofPIK3CA and/orHRAS mutations is rare in SCC; however, both mutations are important potential targets for antitumor therapy. A detailed analysis of gene mutations in CCSCC may lead to a better understanding of its biological behavior and an improved prognosis, as well as a differential diagnosis from other clear cell neoplasms. Orofacial Manifestations in a Middle-Aged Woman with Cowden Syndrome: A Case Image
This article illustrates a case of Cowden syndrome (CS), a rare multisystem genetic condition in which both cutaneous and mucosal tissues were affected. Fewer than 40 cases of CS with oral involvement affecting middle-aged adults have been documented hitherto. (Source: Head and Neck Pathology)
