Circular RNA CCDC66 Regulates Osteoarthritis Progression by Targeting miR-3622b-5p
Conclusion: CircCCDC66 promoted OA chondrocyte apoptosis by regulating the miR-3622b-5p/SIRT3 axis. CircCCDC66 may be a new therapeutic target of OA.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Associations of Gait Disorders and Recurrent Falls in Older People: A Prospective Population-Based Study
Conclusions: Clinical assessment of GDs and gait tests both had independent significant predictive value for recurrent falls over a 5-year follow-up period. This highlights the potential of such assessments for early fall risk screening and timely implementation of fall-preventive measures.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Depressive Symptoms, Subjective Cognitive Decline, and Subjective Sleep Quality Are Associated with Slips and Falls: Data from the Community Health Survey in Korean Adults
Conclusions: Our results demonstrated that depressive symptoms, SCD, and poor subjective sleep quality are independent factors affecting the occurrence of slips/falls. Thus, efforts to manage depressive symptoms and cognitive decline early and to improve sleep quality can be an alternative strategy to decrease the likelihood of falls.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Potential Application of Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound in Delaying Aging for Mice
Discussion: These findings indicate that underwater extracorporeal LIPUS exposure could be employed as single or combined anti-aging strategies that generated positive outcomes against the process of aging.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Increased Attentional Focus on Walking by Older Adults Limits Maximum Speed and Is Related to Dynamic Stability
Conclusion: Older adults with lower automaticity of walking choose to stop walking at speeds before they completed all walking speeds, which may relate with increased attentional demands required to maintain dynamic stability at higher walking speeds. Given that these were otherwise healthy adults, the combination of FSA and an automaticity of walking may help to identify individuals who should be considered for an assessment to identify walking problems.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Prevalence of Oropharyngeal Dysphagia and Risk of Pneumonia, Malnutrition, and Mortality in Adults Aged 60 Years and Older: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Early identification and management of OD should consider geriatric syndromes and neurogenic comorbidities to prevent malnutrition and pneumonia and reduce mortality in adults aged 60 years and older.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Associations of Adverse Childhood Experiences with Frailty in Older Adults: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging
Conclusions: Our study supports previous studies showing that exposure to ACEs is associated with frailty in adults. Our findings suggest that screening for ACEs involving childhood maltreatment may be useful for identifying individuals at risk of frailty and prevention of ACEs may have long-term benefits for healthy aging.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

G-8 Geriatric Screening Tool Independently Predicts Progression-Free Survival in Older Ovarian Cancer Patients Irrespective of Maximal Surgical Effort: Results of a Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: The G-8 score independently predicted PFS in elderly OC patients regardless of maximal surgical effort. Thus, it could be useful to assess surgical treatment based on frailty rather than age alone.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Gender-Specific Differences of Renal Heat Tolerance in Older Adults during Heat Waves
Conclusions: At heat waves, urinary [TIMP-2] ·[IGFBP7] was elevated and higher in men than in women. This suggests gender-specific differences in renal heat tolerance in older people.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Association between Circulating Osteoprogenitor Cells and Sarcopenia
Conclusions: High levels of %COP are associated with better muscle function. Future longitudinal studies are required to elucidate the clinical utility of %COP as a potential biomarker or disease stratifier for sarcopenia.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)

Harnessing Digital Health to Objectively Assess Functional Performance in Veterans with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Conclusion: This study proposes the feasibility of using a 20-s repetitive elbow flexion-extension test and wrist-worn sensor-derived frailty metrics as an alternative and practical solution to evaluate functional performance in COPD patients. Its simplicity and low risk for test administration may also facilitate its application for remote patient monitoring. Furthermore, in settings where the administration of walking test is impractical, for example, when ventilator support is needed or space is limited, FM may be used as an alternative solution. Future studies are encouraged to use the FM to quantitatively monitor the ...

Sex Differences in the Association between Different Obesity Parameters and Cognitive Function in Older Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study in Rural China
Conclusion: Our results suggest that there are significant sex differences in some obesity parameters and cognition in an older Chinese population. BMI and HC are positively associated with cognitive function in women. No association was found between obesity measures and cognitive function in men.Gerontology (Source: Gerontology)
