Reciprocal crosstalk between Th17 and mesothelial cells promotes metastasis-associated adhesion of ovarian cancer cells
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings reveal a novel function for Th17 cells in the OC microenvironment, which entails the IL-17A/TNF-mediated induction of mesothelial-mesenchymal transition, disruption of mesothelial layer integrity and consequently promotion of OC cell adhesion. These effects are potentiated by a positive feedback loop between mesothelial and Th17 cells. Together with the observed clinical associations and accumulation of Th17 cells in omental micrometastases, our observations point to a potential role in early metastases formation and thus to new therapeutic options.PMID:38566518 | PMC:PMC10988119 | DOI:10.1002/ctm...

Can digital twin efforts shape microorganism-based alternative food?
Curr Opin Biotechnol. 2024 Mar 27;87:103115. doi: 10.1016/j.copbio.2024.103115. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWith the continuous increment in global population growth, compounded by post-pandemic food security challenges due to labor shortages, effects of climate change, political conflicts, limited land for agriculture, and carbon emissions control, addressing food production in a sustainable manner for future generations is critical. Microorganisms are potential alternative food sources that can help close the gap in food production. For the development of more efficient and yield-enhancing products, it is necessary to ...

Genetic Signatures for Distinguishing Chemo-Sensitive from Chemo-Resistant Responders in Prostate Cancer Patients
This study delves into the expression of drug resistance-associated genes, ABCB1 and CYP1B1, in cancer cells. Employing bioinformatics, we explored the molecular pathways and cascades linked to drug resistance following upregulation of these genes. Samples were obtained from archived prostate cancer patient specimens through pre-treatment biopsies of two categories: good vs. poor responders, with cDNAs synthesized from isolated RNAs subjected to qPCR analysis. The results revealed increased ABCB1 and CYP1B1 expression in tumor samples of the poor responders. Gene enrichment and network analysis associated ABCB1 with ABC tr...

A revamped rat reference genome improves the discovery of genetic diversity in laboratory rats
Cell Genom. 2024 Mar 22:100527. doi: 10.1016/j.xgen.2024.100527. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe seventh iteration of the reference genome assembly for Rattus norvegicus-mRatBN7.2-corrects numerous misplaced segments and reduces base-level errors by approximately 9-fold and increases contiguity by 290-fold compared with its predecessor. Gene annotations are now more complete, improving the mapping precision of genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomics datasets. We jointly analyzed 163 short-read whole-genome sequencing datasets representing 120 laboratory rat strains and substrains using mRatBN7.2. We defined ∼20.0 milli...

A review of disease risk prediction methods and applications in the omics era
Proteomics. 2024 Mar 24:e2300359. doi: 10.1002/pmic.202300359. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRisk prediction and disease prevention are the innovative care challenges of the 21st century. Apart from freeing the individual from the pain of disease, it will lead to low medical costs for society. Until very recently, risk assessments have ushered in a new era with the emergence of omics technologies, including genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and so on, which potentially advance the ability of biomarkers to aid prediction models. While risk prediction has achieved great success, there are still some challen...
