Bilateral central retinal vein occlusion following COVID-19 vaccination: Cause or coincidence?
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, we report the first case of bilateral CRVO in a healthy patient after anti-COVID 19 vaccination. CRVO occurred few days following third shot of vaccine followed by a sequential CRVO in the fellow eye in a patient with recently diagnosed very mild hypertension and no thrombo-embolic risk factors, strongly suggesting a relationship between both events. Nowadays, CRVO should be kept in mind as a potential side effect of Covid-19 vaccination and should be added to the spectrum of their ophthalmic complications.PMID:38291623 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241229109 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Relationship between visual acuity and OCT angiography parameters in diabetic retinopathy eyes after treatment
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative BCVA of PDR patients was related to OCTA parameters of the SCP (parafoveal and perifoveal VD, perifoveal VLD and FD), DCP (perifoveal VD, VLD, and VT) and CCP (VLD and number of flow voids).PMID:38291627 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241228010 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Evaluation of retinal and choroidal vascular structures in patients with anxiety disorder
CONCLUSION: In people with anxiety disorders, the SFCT was found to be thicker and CVI was found to be lower than normal subjects. Although anxiety and stress are important factors in central serous chorioretinopathy, multifactorial factors, including ocular factors, play a role in the pathophysiology of the disease. There is a need for prospective studies with larger series on the subject.PMID:38291629 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241228620 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Progressive retinoschisis and retinal detachment after uncomplicated macular hole repair surgery
CONCLUSION: We present a rare case of progressive retinoschisis and retinal detachment caused by residual ILM contraction after MH repair surgery. To the best of our knowledge, no such complication after MH repair surgery has been reported in the literature.PMID:38291655 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241229118 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Prevalence of strabismus in premature infants in an age-related perspective
CONCLUSIONS: The frequency of strabismus occurrence among preterm infants has increased by ages 3-8 years. Strabismus, structural changes of eye at ages 6 months - 3 years increases the risk of strabismus at ages 3-8 years. Anisometropia and amblyopia increase in the risk of strabismus, higher visual acuity decreases risk of strabismus.PMID:38295358 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241229315 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Transcriptome Analysis of Choroidal Endothelium Links Androgen Receptor Role to Central Serous Chorioretinopathy
This study utilized a comprehensive query of transcriptomic data derived from non-pathological human choroid and RPE cells.FINDINGS: CSCR-associated genes such as PTPRB, CFH, and others are predominantly expressed in the choroidal endothelium as opposed to the RPE. The androgen receptor, encoded by the AR gene, demonstrates heightened expression in the macular endothelium compared to peripheral regions, unlike other steroid receptor genes. AR-expressing endothelial cells display an augmented responsiveness to Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), indicating a propensity towards endothelial to mesenchymal transition (en...

Neurotrophic Keratopathy after wide retinal endolaser and postoperative Ketorolac eye drops: A case series
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative Ketorolac eye drops, in patients who underwent PPV with endolaser, may reduce the corneal sensitivity, predispose to epithelial disruption and NK development. Studies are needed to explore the effect of NSAIDs on corneal sensitivity reduction in patient who will undergo PPV and extensive endolaser.PMID:38254249 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241228005 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)
