Multimodal imaging of congenital peri-papillary arterial loops presenting with vitreous hemorrage in a young male: A case report
CONCLUSION: Congenital peripapillary loops should be considered in the differential diagnosis of vitreous hemorrhage, especially in young patients with no history of ocular/head trauma. Multimodal imaging is highly recommended to properly manage the patients, avoiding unnecessary therapeutic choices.PMID:38258337 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241228713 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Optical coherence tomography angiography analysis in patients with intracranial hypertension
CONCLUSION: Peripapillary microvascular measurements are highly correlated with GCIPL thickness in patients with IIH. Moreover, GCIPL thickness and peripapillary PD are significantly inferior in patients with regressed papilledema compared to control group. Thus, we suggested that peripapillary microvascular parameters may be an early indicator of optic nerve atrophy in patients with IIH.PMID:38258450 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241228349 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Vision loss due to atypical bilateral edema of the optic nerve in a patient with hereditary angioedema: A case report
CONCLUSION: Patients affected by HAE may show atypical presentation with edema of the optic nerves without involvement of the optic nerve head. They may significantly benefit from prophylactic and chronic treatment with C1-esterase inhibitor.PMID:38238930 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241228003 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

The long-term effects of topical latanoprost 0.005% treatment on pupillary functions: A 2-year longitudinal study
CONCLUSION: The long-term topical latanoprost 0.005% treatment in early-stage POAG has a slight mydriatic effect on the pupil. Further longitudinal clinical studies with larger patient cohorts are necessary to better understand the effects of latanoprost on pupillary functions.PMID:38238940 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241227780 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Outcomes of Mohs micrographic surgery for periocular squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Periocular cSCC recurrence following MMS in the North of England is 5.9%, which is comparable to the literature. Significant post-operative complications following oculoplastic reconstruction of periocular MMS are very low, occurring in 2.9% of cases in this study.PMID:38232980 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231225497 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Former smoking as a risk factor for visual field progression in exfoliation glaucoma patients in Sweden
CONCLUSIONS: Former smoking induced visual field deterioration in all models studied. Smoking status should be considered when establishing the glaucoma diagnosis. Increased glaucoma care should be provided to former smokers to slow the progression of the disease.PMID:38233361 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241226990 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

FIL SSF intraocular lens opacification after gas tamponade: A case series
Eur J Ophthalmol. 2024 Jan 17:11206721241226743. doi: 10.1177/11206721241226743. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: To report three cases of postoperative opacification of sutureless scleral-fixed hydrophilic intraocular lens (FIL SSF IOL, Soleko, Italy) after gas tamponade. Two cases occurred after pars plana vitrectomy and one case after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty.CASE REPORT: Two diabetic patients underwent a FIL SSF IOL implantation after posterior capsular rupture during cataract surgery. Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) was observed in one patient during the initial surgery. A second patien...

Impact of intravitreal triamcinolone injection following epiretinal membrane peeling on ectopic inner foveal layer classification
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that concurrent intravitreal TA injection following ERM removal did not provide additional benefits regarding anatomical and visual improvement in iERM cases classified as Stages 2 and 3.PMID:38204151 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241226469 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Optical coherence tomography characteristics and factors affecting visual acuity in diabetic papillopathy
CONCLUSION: Although described to have good visual outcome, eyes presenting with poor visual acuity tend to have worse vision on follow up. This may aid in prognosticating and guiding management plan.PMID:38193207 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231225989 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Bilateral retrobulbar optic neuritis combined with optic perineuritis associated with atezolizumab treatment for small cell lung carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Retrobulbar ON and OPN associated with atezolizumab are rare side effects that are easily overlooked. Immune-related ON has unique features and requires early identification. The primary treatment for optic nerve irAEs is corticosteroids, but this is not standardized and should be used with caution.PMID:38178774 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231222659 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Comparison of intraocular lens tilt after capsular sutured scleral fixation with capsular segments versus uneventful cataract surgery
CONCLUSION: Sutured scleral fixation of capsular tension segments in the presence of zonular instability does not seem to induce clinically significant IOL tilt compared to uneventful cataract extraction cases.PMID:38179681 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231223997 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)
