Clinical and diagnostic profile of Tolosa-Hunt syndrome; a 7-year retrospective observational study
CONCLUSION: Restriction of eye movements was the most common symptom, along with cavernous sinus being the most common site of involvement in THS. MRI scans are important diagnostic tools for THS.PMID:38092690 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231221590 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Ink blot leakage in central retinal artery occlusion
CONCLUSION: We report a case of ink-blot leakage on FFA, similar to that observed in CSCR in an eye with acute CRAO. We propose that the hyperfluorescent spot in our acute CRAO was likely caused by red blood cell aggregation or rouleaux formation.PMID:38087415 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231220333 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Evaluation of the effects of mono or combined use of topical antiglaucomatous drops on conjunctival flora and antibiotic susceptibility
CONCLUSION: Considering the statistically significant increase in isolates in all glaucoma patients, we suggest that more care should be taken in terms of infection in surgical procedures planned for glaucoma patients.PMID:38087444 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231219275 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Myopia management algorithm. Annexe to the article titled Update and guidance on management of myopia. European Society of Ophthalmology in cooperation with International Myopia Institute
Eur J Ophthalmol. 2023 Dec 12:11206721231219532. doi: 10.1177/11206721231219532. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMyopia is becoming increasingly common in young generations all over the world, and it is predicted to become the most common cause of blindness and visual impairment in later life in the near future. Because myopia can cause serious complications and vision loss, it is critical to create and prescribe effective myopia treatment solutions that can help prevent or delay the onset and progression of myopia. The scientific understanding of myopia's causes, genetic background, environmental conditions, and various man...

The gut microbiome and primary open angle glaucoma: Evidence for a 'gut-glaucoma' axis?
Eur J Ophthalmol. 2023 Dec 12:11206721231219147. doi: 10.1177/11206721231219147. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlaucoma presents an epidemiological burden as the leading cause of irreversible blindness globally and the most common cause of preventable blindness. While elevated intraocular pressure is the strongest modifiable risk factor, the exact mechanisms of retinal ganglion cell damage leading to progressive vision loss are not entirely understood. Studies of other neurodegenerative diseases show a potential for human gut microbiome dysbiosis to play a pathogenic role. An investigation into whether the microbiome, a po...

Pan fibroblast growth factor receptor inhibitor associated retinopathy
CONCLUSIONS: Cancer treatments using FGFRi are showing promising results but their ocular toxicity is not well reported nor fully understood. Oncologists should be aware of the potential risks associated with FGFRi and involve ophthalmologists for the follow-up of their patients. The toxicity of FGFRi seems to resolve after drug continuation, but a certain degree of infra clinical RPE impairment may persist. Longer term follow-ups are warranted to further understand the effects of FGFRi on the RPE.PMID:38086757 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231220334 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Orbital apocrine hidrocystoma. Report of two cases
CONCLUSIONS: Apocrine hidrocystomas have been rarely described in the orbit, but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of orbital cystic masses. Recurrence is rare following complete surgical excision.PMID:38073082 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231219720 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Refractive lens exchange: What are the red lines?
Eur J Ophthalmol. 2023 Dec 7:11206721231218909. doi: 10.1177/11206721231218909. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPractical advancements in phacoemulsification techniques and intraocular lenses and the wide availability of phacoemulsification machines have led refractive lens exchange (RLE) to increase in popularity. Ethical boundaries in RLE have subsequently been pushed to include patients at higher risk of complications. In this editorial, we consider RLE outcomes and complications per type of refractive error, together with preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative ethical obligations for refractive surgeons. In the c...
