Specific mortality in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: a retrospective analysis based on the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database
ConclusionThe most significant predictor of DLBCL-specific mortality is the age of the patient, followed by the Ann Arbor stage and the administration of chemotherapy. This predictive model has the potential to facilitate the identification of high-risk DLBCL patients by clinicians, ultimately leading to improved prognosis. Intravenous infusion of dexmedetomidine during the surgery to prevent postoperative delirium and postoperative cognitive dysfunction undergoing non-cardiac surgery: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionCompared with other interventions, intravenous dexmedetomidine infusion during non-cardiac and non-neurosurgical procedures may significantly reduce the risk of postoperative delirium and cognitive dysfunction. The results of subgroup analysis reveal a consistent preventive effect on postoperative delirium in both general and non-general anaesthesia groups. Meanwhile, continuous infusion during general anaesthesia was more effective in reducing the risk of cognitive dysfunction. Despite such findings, hypotension and bradycardia were more frequent in patients who received dexmedetomidine during surgery. (Source: ...

HE4-based nomogram for predicting overall survival in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: construction and validation
In this study, prognostic nomograms were generated based on the results of the cox regression analysis. We identified the HE4 protein level increased in IPF patients, but not the HE4 gene expression. The increased expression of HE4 correlated positively with a poor prognosis for patients with IPF. The HR and 95% CI were 2.62 (1.61 –4.24) (p <  0.001) in the training set. We constructed a model based on the risk-score = 0.16222182 * HE4 + 0/0.37580659/1.05003609 (for GAP index 0–3/4–5/6–8) + (− 1.1183375). In both training and validation sets, high-risk patients had poor prognoses (HR: 3.49, 95...

Multi-omics and immunogenomics analysis revealed PFKFB3 as a targetable hallmark and mediates sunitinib resistance in papillary renal cell carcinoma: in silico study with laboratory verification
AbstractGlycolysis-related metabolic reprogramming is a central hallmark of human cancers, especially in renal cell carcinoma. However, the regulatory function of glycolytic signature in papillary RCC has not been well elucidated. In the present study, the glycolysis-immune predictive signature was constructed and validated  using WGCNA, glycolysis-immune clustering analysis. PPI network of DEGs was constructed and visualized. Functional enrichments and patients’ overall survival were analyzed. QRT-PCR experiments were performed to detect hub genes’ expression and distribution, siRNA technology was used to silenc e t...

Exploring the immune-inflammatory mechanism of Maxing Shigan Decoction in treating influenza virus A-induced pneumonia based on an integrated strategy of single-cell transcriptomics and systems biology
ConclusionMXSGD may play an anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory role by regulating intestinal microbiome and intestinal metabolic small molecules, and ultimately play a role in the treatment of influenza A virus pneumonia. (Source: European Journal of Medical Research)

Dyslipidemia and associated factors among adult cardiac patients: a hospital-based comparative cross-sectional study
ConclusionDyslipidemia was high among the study participants. Overweight, obesity, central adiposity, and high blood pressure were significantly associated with dyslipidemia in cardiac patients. This alarms the need for lipid profile assessment for patients periodically, with treatment follow-up to monitor any rising patterns and cardiovascular-related risks. Disordered GPR43/NLRP3 expression in peripheral leukocytes of patients with atrial fibrillation is associated with intestinal short chain fatty acids levels
ConclusionsDisrupted interactions between GPR43 and NLRP3 expression in peripheral blood leukocytes, associated with reduced intestinal GM-derived SCFAs, especially acetic acid, may be involved in AF development and left atrial enlargement by enhancing circulating inflammation. Replication study identified EFEMP1 association with varicose vein predisposition among Indians
ConclusionThis study identifiesEFEMP1 as a potential gene related to the risk of varicose veins in Indians. It also highlights that evaluating the maximum number of variants of a gene rather than focusing solely on replicating single variations offers a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the genetic factors contributing to a complex trait like varicose veins. Functional analysis and validation of oncodrive gene AP3S1 in ovarian cancer through filtering of mutation data from whole-exome sequencing
ConclusionThis comprehensive analysis of somatic mutations in HGSOC provides insight into potential therapeutic targets and molecular pathways for targeted interventions. AP3S1 was identified as being a key player in tumor immunity and prognosis, thus providing new perspectives for personalized treatment strategies. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of HGSOC pathogenesis and provide a foundation for improved outcomes in patients with this aggressive disease. Tyrosine hydroxylase inhibits HCC progression by downregulating TGF β/Smad signaling
AbstractThe alteration of metabolic processes has been found to have significant impacts on the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Nevertheless, the effects of dysfunction of tyrosine metabolism on the development of HCC remains to be discovered. This research demonstrated that tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), which responsible for the initial and limiting step in the bio-generation of the neuro-transmitters dopamine and adrenaline, et al. was shown to be reduced in HCC. Increased expression of TH was found facilitates the survival of HCC patients. In addition, decreased TH indicated larger tumor size, much more numb...
