Predictive modeling for acute kidney injury after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute coronary syndrome: a machine learning approach
ConclusionOur analyses showed that ML models can predict AKI with acceptable performance. This has potential clinical utility for assessing the individualized risk of AKI in ACS patients undergoing PCI. Additionally, the identified features in the models may aid in mitigating these risk factors.Graphical Abstract (Source: European Journal of Medical Research)

circNINL facilitates aerobic glycolysis, proliferation, invasion, and migration in lung cancer by sponging miR-3918 to mediate FGFR1 expression
This study aimed to delineate the biological role of circNINL in LC and to unveil its potential molecular mechanisms. We discovered elevated expression levels of circNINL and Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1 (FGFR1) concomitant with diminished expression of microRNA-3918 (miR-3918) in LC specimens. Knockdown of circNINL led to a marked decrease in cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and aerobic glycolysis, alongside an upsurge in apoptosis in LC cells. Either downregulation of miR-3918 or overexpression of FGFR1 mitigated the suppressive impact of circNINL knockdown on LC pathogenesis. Mechanistic studies validated...

Chalcone-derivative L6H21 attenuates the OVA-induced asthma by targeting MD2
The objective of this study was to explore the impact of MD2 on the progression of asthma using L6H21, a novel MD2 inhibitor, to identify potential targets and drug candidates for asthma treatment. To establish an asthma-related murine model and evaluate the effects of L6H21, ovalbumin (OVA) was used to sensitize and challenge mice. Pathological changes were examined with various staining techniques, such as H&E staining, glycogen staining, and Masson staining. Inflammatory cell infiltration and excessive cytokine secretion were evaluated by analyzing BALF cell count, RT-PCR, and ELISA. The TLR4/MD2 complex formation, ...

N-Nitrosomorpholine-induced oncocytic transformation in rat endocrine organs
ConclusionsWe showed that NMO induced an oncocytic change in pancreas, thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal glands. To date, no identified specific environmental risk factors that lead to an oncocytic transformation in endocrine glands have been reported previously. Given the increasing prevalence of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the environment, personal care products, manufactured goods, and food sources, there is a need to advance our understanding of the pathological mechanisms underlying oncocytosis in endocrine organs. SOX9 gene shows association with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis predisposition in Northwest Indians
ConclusionThe present study is the first to demonstrate the association of SOX9 enhancer locus variants with AIS in any South Asian Indian population. The results are interesting as rs1042667, a 3' untranslated region (UTR) variant in the exon 3 and upstream variants of the SOX9 gene, were associated with AIS susceptibility in the Northwest Indian population. This provides evidence that the variants in the enhancer region ofSOX9 might regulate its gene expression, thus leading to AIS pathology and might act as an important gene for AIS susceptibility. Rapid weather changes are associated with daily hospital visitors for atrial fibrillation accompanied by abnormal ECG repolarization: a case-crossover study
ConclusionThis study highlights a significant correlation between meteorological factors and daily hospital visits for AF accompanied by abnormal ECG repolarization in Shanghai, China. In addition, AF patients with abnormal ECG repolarization were found to be more vulnerable to rapid daily changes in pressure and temperature compared to AF patients without such repolarization abnormalities.
