Reappraising the role of thyroid scintigraphy in the era of TIRADS: A clinically-oriented viewpoint
AbstractThyroid nodules (TNs) are a common entity, with the majority being benign. Therefore, employing an accurate rule-out strategy in clinical practice is essential. In the thyroid field, the current era is significantly marked by the worldwide diffusion of ultrasound (US)-based malignancy risk stratification systems of TN, usually reported as Thyroid Imaging Reporting And Data System (TIRADS). With the advent of US (and later TIRADS), the role of thyroid scintigraphy (TS) in clinical practice has gradually diminished. The authors of the present paper believe that the role of TS should be reappraised, also considering i...

Neuroendocrine modulation by metamizole and indomethacin: investigating the impact on neuronal markers and GnRH release
ConclusionsThe results of our study showing an increase in the expression of neuronal factors reveal that metamizole and indomethacin may have possible neuroprotective effects. Moreover, the effects on the GnRH expression appear to be different. Animal models are required to confirm these effects of NSAIDs on neurons. (Source: Endocrine)

Hypertension and diabetes, but not leptin and adiponectin, mediate the relationship between body fat and chronic kidney disease
ConclusionOur results suggest that the relations between BMI, TBF and CKD are in part mediated by diabetes and hypertension. (Source: Endocrine)

Interventions to improve symptomatology in patients with hypothyroidism and persistent symptoms: A systematic review
ConclusionsThere is no high-quality evidence supporting any intervention for persistent symptoms in hypothyroidism. Available evidence, limited by the risk of bias, inconsistency, and heterogeneity, suggests that some persistent symptoms, particularly fatigue, could improve with ginger and thyroidectomy. Predictive value of postprandial C-peptide for utilizing multiple daily injection therapy in type 2 diabetes
ConclusionThe results of our study suggest that longer diabetes duration, higher FPG, and lower PCP were associated with necessity for MDI insulin regimen. These findings should assist with the personalization of insulin treatment. (Source: Endocrine)

The effect of coping strategies on health –related quality of life in acromegaly patients
ConclusionOur results show that maladaptive coping styles have a substantial negative impact on psychological HRQoL in patients with acromegaly, whereas physical HRQoL is influenced to a lesser extent. Specialized training programs aimed at improving coping strategies could reduce long-term disease burden and increase HRQoL in the affected patients. (Source: Endocrine)
