Dual-release hydrocortisone improves body composition and the glucometabolic profile in patients with secondary adrenal insufficiency
ConclusionThis study suggests that switching to DR-HC leads to lower late-evening cortisol/cortisone exposure and a more favourable metabolic profile and body composition. In contrast, decreased osteocalcin with increasing sclerostin might indicate a negative impact on bones.Clinical trial registrationEudraCT201400203932 (Source: Endocrine)

Thyroid disorders induced by immune checkpoint inhibitors
AbstractImmune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are a revolutionary class of drugs that powerfully contribute to cancer therapy by harnessing the immune system to fight malignancies. However, their successful use as anti-cancer drugs is accompanied by a wide spectrum of immune-related adverse effects (irAEs), including endocrinopathies. Among them, thyroid dysfunction stands out as one of the most common endocrinopathies induced by ICI therapy and surfaces as a prominent concern. Destructive thyroiditis is the pathophysiological basis shared by the most common patterns of thyrotoxicosis followed by hypothyroidism and isolated ...

Impact of COVID-19 on testicular function: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThe present systematic review and meta-analysis suggests the presence of an association between SARS-CoV-2 infection and primary testicular damage manifested with a picture of altered steroidogenesis and worsening spermatogenesis. The absence of the virus in the seminal fluid indicates a low possibility of sexual transmission of the infection to partners and offspring. However, our findings mostly show short-term follow-up, while few studies have considered the long-term consequences of the viral infection, thus further studies are needed to evaluate the long-term consequences on male reproductive health. The significance of an immunohistochemical marker-based panel in assisting the diagnosis of parathyroid carcinoma
ConclusionAn IHC panel of parafibromin, Ki-67 and E-cadherin may help to distinguish PC from parathyroid neoplasms. Among the 6 IHC markers and clinical features examined, the risk factor related to PC recurrence was parafibromin staining loss. (Source: Endocrine)

Nodal metastasis in noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP)
We present an adult male patient with a final histological diagnosis of NIFTP and lymph node metastasis noted at post-therapy whole-body scintigraphy performed some days after radioiodine therapy. (Source: Endocrine)

Predictors of bone mineral density in patients receiving glucocorticoid replacement for Addison ’s disease
ConclusionStandard HC substitution does not considerably accelerate BMD loss in AD patients and their serum BTMs: CTX, osteocalcin, sclerostin, DKK-1, and ALP activity remain within the reference ranges. Independent predictors of low lumbar spine BMD, especially ALP activity, serum CTX and sclerostin, might be monitored during GC substitution. (Source: Endocrine)

A rare case report of reversible glucose counterregulation in an insulinoma patient with type 2 diabetes
ConclusionsThe diagnosis of T2DM in the patient after surgery may be related to increased food intake and insulin resistance induced by hyperinsulinemia caused by long-term hypoglycemia. The reversible decrease in cortisol levels, not adrenocortical insufficiency during the diagnostic process, may be caused by a transient abnormality in glucose counterregulation. (Source: Endocrine)

Predictors of amputation in patients with diabetic foot ulcers: a multi-centre retrospective cohort study
ConclusionOur findings underscore Blood type-B, Hx. Of amputation, Bacterial culture-positive, Wagner 3 –5, and PAD as independent risk factors for amputation in DFU patients. The resultant nomogram exhibits substantial accuracy in predicting amputation occurrence. Timely identification of these risk factors can reduce DFU-related amputation rates. (Source: Endocrine)
