High myopic patients with and without foveoschisis: morphological and functional characteristics
ConclusionsThis study showed that the morphological changes observed in the central retina of HM patients with MF are associated with functional alterations. High-tech diagnostic tests such as SD-OCT, mfERG and MP-1 could be useful for management in complications of MF. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Biomarkers in Usher syndrome: ultra-widefield fundus autofluorescence and optical coherence tomography findings and their correlation with visual acuity and electrophysiology findings
ConclusionsStructural changes identified on OCT and UW-FAF correlated with BCVA and pERG in this cohort representing different stages of the disease. These parameters could represent reliable biomarkers in therapeutic clinical trials on USH. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Improvement of reduced electroretinographic responses in thymoma-associated retinopathy: a case report and literature review
ConclusionsTo our knowledge, improvement of reduced rod-mediated ERG responses has not been described in seven previously reported patients with thymoma-associated retinopathy. The good visual prognosis of our patient may be associated with well-timed intervention. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Changes of focal macular and full-field electroretinograms after intravitreal aflibercept in patients with central retinal vein occlusion
ConclusionsIVA injections by the TAE regimen led to a continuous improvement of the macular function in patients with ME associated with a CRVO. However, the function of the whole retina changed differently than the macula after the treatment. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Chromatic visual evoked potentials indicate early dysfunction of color processing in young patients with demyelinating disease
ConclusionsThese findings demonstrate that cVEP indicate early abnormality of parvocellular pathway function in eyes with or without a history of optic neuritis and can be used together with other structural and functional parameters to evaluate visual pathway integrity of young patients with DD. Long-term PERG monitoring of untreated and treated glaucoma suspects
ConclusionsResults substantiate and extend previous results showing that steady-state PERG amplitude progressively decreased over time in a proportion of glaucoma suspects, with relatively steeper slope in TGS compared to UGS. RNFLT progression also had a steeper slope in TGS compared to UGS; however, progressions of PERG amplitude and RNFLT were not significantly correlated. Both PERG progression and RNFLT progression independently contribute to prediction of visual field progression. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Wide-field true-colour imaging and clinical characterization of a novel GRK1 mutation in Oguchi disease
ConclusionsHere, we demonstrate how characterizing this condition with single-shot true-colour wide-field imaging has distinct advantages over scanning laser technology, which applies artificial colouration, or stitched true-colour images. Images captured with wide-field systems create a much better representation of the native and dark-adapted fundus than can be observed by the ophthalmologist using direct fundoscopy and are essential in the clinical characterization of new mutations. Changes in cone-driven functions after intravitreal aflibercept injections in patients with age-related macular degeneration
ConclusionsThe macular function improved continuously during the maintenance phase of the intravitreal aflibercept injections. In contrast, the cone-driven functions of the more peripheral retina decreased with repeated injections suggesting adverse effects of the intravitreal aflibercept injections on the function of the more peripheral normal retina. Macular function following intravitreal ranibizumab for macular edema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion: 12-month results
ConclusionsThe deterioration of the macular function on the occluded side during the maintenance phase suggests that there is a progression of the disease process during the PRN period in eyes with BRVOME. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Ring analysis of multifocal oscillatory potentials (mfOPs) in cCSNB suggests near-normal ON –OFF pathways at the fovea only
ConclusionsOur results show a clear discrepancy of ON and OFF mfOP components in cCSNB. Responses originating from the most central ring (i.e., ring 1) disclosed a near-normal electrophysiological contribution (as revealed with the presence of OP2, OP3 and OP4 as well as with the DWT OFF-to-ON ratio) of the retinal ON and OFF pathways in mfERG (and mfOPs) responses compared to responses from the more peripheral ring (and ffOP) which are devoid of the ON OPs (i.e., OP2 and OP3). XEN Gel Stent in the management of primary open-angle glaucoma
ConclusionsThe XEN Gel Stent enables significant reduction in intraocular pressure with very low complication rates. It ensures a stabilization of the retinal function as established with the PERG. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Retinal and visual function in infants with non-accidental trauma and retinal hemorrhages
ConclusionsRetinal dysfunction was common during the acute phase of NAT. A near normal appearing fundus did not imply normal retinal function, and ERG abnormality did not always predict a poor visual acuity outcome. However, a negative ERG waveform was associated severe visual acuity loss. Potential artifacts of retinal hemorrhages and anesthesia could not fully account for multifocal ERG abnormalities. Retinal function can be preserved in areas adjacent to traumatic retinoschisis. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Multimodal imaging in a family with Cockayne syndrome with a novel pathogenic mutation in the ERCC8 gene, and significant phenotypic variability
ConclusionThe clinical presentation and genetic studies confirmed a diagnosis of Cockayne syndrome in both sisters caused by compound heterozygous mutations in theERCC8 gene on chromosome 10. Multimodal ocular imaging and systemic findings revealed wide phenotypic variability between the affected siblings. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)

Insights for mfVEPs from perimetry using large spatial frequency-doubling and near frequency-doubling stimuli in glaucoma
ConclusionThe lower temporal frequency R9 stimuli had similar diagnostic power to the FDT-C20 stimuli. CCA indicated the both stimuli drove similar neural mechanisms, possibly suggesting no advantage of FD stimuli for mfVEPs. Given that the contrast-threshold mfVEPs were non-viable, we used the present and published results to make recommendations for future mfVEP tests. (Source: Documenta Ophthalmologica)
