The Role of Faecalibacterium, Roseburia and Butyrate in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Faecalibacterium and Roseburia are major producers of butyrate in the intestine. A reduced abundance of the organisms and a concurrent reduction in butyrate levels are associated with inflammatory bowel disease. (Source: Digestive Diseases)

Diet and lifestyle habits in early-onset colorectal cancer. a pilot case-control study.
Background: Early-onset Colorectal Cancer (eoCRC), defined as a CRC in patients younger than 50 years old, shows an increasing incidence worldwide in the latest years. The role of exogenous factors associated with CRC has been largely overlooked in eoCRC. Here, we conducted a case-control study to evaluate the diet and the lifestyle habits in an Italian population of patients with eoCRC, compared to age-matched healthy controls (HCs). Methods: We enrolled 118 subjects (47 cases, 71 controls) in a third-level academic hospital. We analyzed epidemiological features (age, sex, BMI), lifestyle behaviors (smoking habits, physi...

New Endoscopic Solutions in Managing Phlegmonous Esophagitis
A 48-years-old woman was admitted in the emergency department due epigastric pain, vomiting and cough. She presented with fever and increased inflammatory parameters. A thoracoabdominal computed-tomography (CT) was performed and revealed thickening of the gastric fundus and esophagus, with an apparent laceration in esophageal mucosa and associated dissection of esophageal wall. In upper endoscopy (UE), a bulging of esophageal and gastric walls was observed, with an ulceration in proximal esophagus, suggestive of a perforation. After multidisciplinary discussion, a minimally invasive endoscopic approach was decided. Interna...

Trastuzumab Emtansine-induced nodular regenerative hyperplasia: is dose reduction enough as a preventable measure?
We report the case of a 52-year-old woman who started T-DM1 therapy for recurrent metastatic lung adenocarcinoma. Although a progressive reduction in lung nodules was noticed, there was a new-onset cytocholestasis and elevation in bilirubin. A reduction in platelet count was also appa rent over several months during the T-DM1 therapy. Liver biopsy revealed NRH and so the dose of T-DM1 was reduced. Thereafter, the patient had normalization of liver tests and platelet count. T-DM1 was continued for more than 9 months with no signs of portal hypertension or cancer progression. Conc lusions: We presented a rare case of NRH in...

Comparison of pre-endoscopic C-WATCH score with established risk assessment tools in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding
Background: Use of risk scores for early assessment of patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is recommended by various guidelines. We compared C-WATCH score with Glasgow Blatchford Score (GBS), Rockall score (RS) and pre-endoscopic RS (p-RS). Methods: Patients with UGIB between January to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed regarding 30 day-mortality and composite endpoints risk of complications and need for intervention using areas under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUROC). Subgroup analysis was conducted for patients with UGIB on admission and in-hospital UGIB. Results: 252 patient...

Increased risk of liver-related outcomes in chronic hepatitis B patients with metabolic syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion: MetS is associated with almost 3 folds higher risk of LROs in CHB and should be considered in management decisions. However, additional studies are needed. (Source: Digestive Diseases)

Clinical profiles of Asians with NAFLD: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction: NAFLD is increasingly prevalent in Asia, where people suffer more metabolic comorbidities at a lower body mass index (BMI), suggesting potential differences in their clinical profile. Therefore, we attempted to characterize the clinical profile of Asians with NAFLD via a meta-analytic approach. Methods: We searched Pubmed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases from January 1, 2000 to January 17, 2019. Two authors independently reviewed and selected 104 articles (2,247,754 persons) that identified NAFLD in Asians and reported relevant data, especially BMI and ALT, and excluded individuals with o ther liver disease ...

Comparison of the Effectiveness and Safety of Different Methods of Colorectal Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: P-ESD and T-ESD are probably the two best methods of colorectal ESD at present. The advantages of P-ESD are high en bloc resection rate and low incidence of adverse events. The advantages of T-ESD are rapid dissection and short operation time.Dig Dis (Source: Digestive Diseases)

Signs of Dissociation and Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Case-Control Study
Conclusion: IBD patients show a high prevalence of dissociative and traumatic affective disorders. Future studies are needed to investigate the role of these disorders in the clinical course and management of IBD patients according to the different disease activity phase. A Steep Early Learning Curve for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection in the Live Porcine Model
Conclusions: Through successive procedures, complete resections, en bloc resections, and ESD speed improve whereas adverse events decrease, supporting the role of the live porcine model in the preclinical learning phase. Changing ESD knives has a momentarily negative impact on the learning curve. (Source: Digestive Diseases)

Antibody Response to SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Results of a Single-Center Cohort Study in a Tertiary Hospital in Germany
Conclusion: Overall, we could show a high antibody response to vaccination with COVID-19 in all patients with IBD after 2 vaccinations. Vaccination was well tolerated, and no other adverse events were detected. Concomitant immunomodulatory therapy (TNF-alpha blockers, interleukin inhibitors, integrin inhibitors, methotrexate, or azathioprine) had no impact on seroconversion. Further evaluation of antibody titers over time is mandatory to detect early the need for re-vaccination in these patients. (Source: Digestive Diseases)
