Elevation of autoantibodies to cerebral proteins in hepatic encephalopathy: Another pathogenic factor?
Conclusion: The degree of hepatic encephalopathy parallels neuronal autoantibody elevation. In case a causal relationship could finally be established, it adds to the understanding of hepatic encephalopathy and may open a new perspective for treatment of this handicaping condition by immunosuppressive strategies. Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy and Barrett's esophagus – just a scientific toy or significant improvement in diagnosis?
Background: Barrett ’s esophagus (BE) requires surveillance to identify potential neoplasia at early stage. Standard surveillance regimen includes random four-quadrant biopsies by Seattle protocol. Main limitations of random biopsies are high risk of sampling error, difficulties in histology interpretation, common in adequate classification of pathohistological changes, increased risk of bleeding and time necessary to acquire the final diagnosis. Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) has emerged as a potential tool with an aim to overcome these obvious limitations. Summary: pCLE represents real-time microscop...

Correlation of endoscopic ultrasonography features with mitotic index in 2 –5 cm gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors
Conclusion: Conventional EUS features are not reliable for predicting the mitotic index of 2–5 cm gastric GISTs. Further modalities for predicting the mitotic index are needed to prevent unnecessary surgical resections in patients with a low risk of malignanc y. (Source: Digestive Diseases)

Does ProCore fine needle biopsy really improve the clinical outcome of endoscopic ultrasound-guided sampling of pancreatic masses?
Conclusion: EUS-FNB with ProCore needle is safe and feasible in pancreatic lesions. ProCore needle did not provide any advantage in terms of diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive and/or negative likelihood ratio, or acquisition of core specimen, therefore its routine application is not (Source: Digestive Diseases)

Evaluation and validation of a new score to measure the severity of small-bowel angiodysplasia on video capsule endoscopy (cesbai)
Introduction: Angiodysplasias are responsible of 50 % of small bowel bleeding. An endoscopic method that allows measuring its severity is not available Aims: to validate a new endoscopic score with VCE to measure the severity of small bowel angiodysplasias (SBAD). Methods: Four endoscopists independently reviewed VCE videos of 22 patients with SBAD. The score graded three variables: A. Extent of lesions: E1: located in one half of the intestine and E2:in both halves. B. Number of lesions: N110 lesions. C. Probability of bleeding: P1: pale red spots; P2: bright red spots; P3: bleeding stigmata and P4: active bleeding. ...
