Positioning determines function: Wandering PKM2 performs different roles in tumor cells
Cell Biol Int. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1002/cbin.12103. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTShort for pyruvate kinase M2 subtype, PKM2 can be said of all-round player that is notoriously known for its metabolic involvement in glycolysis. Holding a dural role as a metabolic or non-metabolic (kinase) enzyme, PKM2 has drawn extensive attention over its biological roles implicated in tumor cells, including proliferation, migration, invasion, metabolism, and so on. wandering PKM2 can be transboundary both intracellularly and extracellularly. Specifically, PKM2 can be nuclear, cytoplasmic, mitochondrial, exosomal, or even circulate withi...

Mesenchymal stem cells and their extracellular vesicles in urological cancers: Prostate, bladder, and kidney
Cell Biol Int. 2023 Nov 10. doi: 10.1002/cbin.12098. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are recognized for their remarkable ability to differentiate into multiple cell types. They are also known to possess properties that can fight cancer, leading to attempts to modify MSCs for use in anticancer treatments. However, MSCs have also been found to participate in pathways that promote tumor growth. Many studies have been conducted to explore the potential of MSCs for clinical applications, but the results have been inconclusive, possibly due to the diverse nature of MSC populations. Furthermore, the co...

Exosomes derived from uMSCs promote hair regrowth in alopecia areata through accelerating human hair follicular keratinocyte proliferation and migration
In this study, we investigated the effects of exosomes released from uMSCs in AA mice. In summary, due to easy isolation and cultivation, simple preparation, and convenient storage, it is possible to obtain uMSCs, or uMSCs exosomes for research and clinical treatment.PMID:37920124 | DOI:10.1002/cbin.12099 (Source: Cell Biology International)

Isolation and propagation of bovine blood-derived macrophages using a mixed culture with bovine endothelial B46 cells
In conclusion, this study provides a simple and efficient protocol for the isolation and propagation of BBMs using a primary mixed culture of bovine whole blood with B46 feeder cells. Isolated BBMs are expected to be useful for developing in vitro models for studying the interactions between bovine pathogens and host immune cells.PMID:37920877 | DOI:10.1002/cbin.12102 (Source: Cell Biology International)
