Idiopathic central precocious puberty in a Klinefelter patient: highlights on gonadotropin levels and pathophysiology
ConclusionsICPP in boys is extremely rare. The pathophysiology of ICPP in KS is unknown. However, maternal X supplementary chromosome and early testicular destruction may play a significant role in the initiation of ICPP, in part explaining the relative“overrepresentation of ICPP in KS. Thus, karyotype analysis could be considered for boys suffering from ICPP, especially if testicular size is smaller or gonadotropins are significantly elevated. (Source: Basic and Clinical Andrology)

Prevalence and factors associated with erectile dysfunction among adult men in Moshi municipal, Tanzania: community-based study
ConclusionThe prevalence of ED is high among men in Moshi municipal as 1 out of 3 men have ED. Age and hypertension were independent predictors of ED. These results point to the need of community awareness and education programs to raise awareness among men about existence of ED problem, its consequence and where they can get advice and care in this setting. Further, health providers taking care of hypertensive and men with DM should be equipped with knowledge and skills on early detection for ED and how to counsel and where to refer patients for help. External quality assessment program for biochemical assays of human seminal plasma: a French 6-years experience
ConclusionsWe organized the first French EQA program for seminal biochemistry to help local laboratories to face their legal requirement to be fully accredited by 2020. It could be improved still further but it gave us an oversight on the analytic landscape. Effective methods are available for a confident biochemical exploration of prostate and seminal vesicles. However, that of epididymis appeared unexpectedly fragile. This andrological issue should be addressed by dedicated recommendations from health authorities and scientific societies. Management of proximal penile prosthetic cylindrical complications: a novel direct crural approach
ConclusionOur technique, which can be used for all types of penile prosthesis, is both feasible and safe. It may simplify PPPCC revision by avoiding adhesions below the original incision, without jeopardizing the already implanted materials or the urethra. It may also improve patients ’ safety and satisfaction, by reducing iatrogenic injury and post-operative recovery time. (Source: Basic and Clinical Andrology)

Regional difference in semen quality of young men: a review on the implication of environmental and lifestyle factors during fetal life and adulthood
AbstractThe prevalence of low semen quality and the incidence of testicular cancer have been steadily increasing over the past decades in different parts of the World. Although these conditions may have a genetic or epigenetic origin, there is growing evidence that multiple environmental and lifestyle factors can act alone or in combination to induce adverse effects. Exposure to these factors may occur as early as during fetal life, via the mother, and directly throughout adulthood after full spermatogenic capacity is reached. This review aims at providing an overview of past and current trends in semen quality and its rel...

A case of germline mosaicism for a 7q32.1q33 deletion in a sperm donor: consequences on pregnancy follow-up and recommendations
ConclusionsSeveral cases of germline mosaicism have been reported to date, but their frequency is probably underestimated. Moreover, it is important to note that germline mosaicism cannot be ruled out by conventional cytogenetic screening of blood cells. This case highlights the need for close follow-up of every pregnancy obtained through gamete donation, given that the occurrence of germline mosaicism may have major consequences when multiple pregnancies are obtained concomitantly. The effects of varicocelectomy on the DNA fragmentation index and other sperm parameters: a meta-analysis
ConclusionVaricocelectomy reduced DNA fragmentation and improved sperm concentration, progressive motility, and morphology. Additionally, the analysis showed that an abnormal DFI measurement should be considered as an indication for varicocelectomy. (Source: Basic and Clinical Andrology)

Excessive unilateral proliferation of spermatogonia in a patient with non-obstructive azoospermia – adverse effect of clomiphene citrate pre-treatment?
ConclusionThis result suggests that formation of the blood-testis barrier is disturbed in affected tubules. To our knowledge this is the first observation of excessive, non-malignant proliferation of spermatogonia in a NOA patient. Although underlying molecular mechanisms remain to be elucidated, we hypothesize that the unusual pathology was triggered by the high-dose clomiphene citrate treatment preceding testicular biopsy. Could high DNA stainability (HDS) be a valuable indicator of sperm nuclear integrity?
ConclusionHDS correlates poorly with most tests that focus specifically on the level of maturity of the sperm nucleus. To our knowledge, this study is the first to compare SCSA ®, TUNEL, AB, TB and CMA3 assays on identical samples. It shows the potency, consistency and limitations of each test and the care that must be taken in their interpretation. (Source: Basic and Clinical Andrology)

Abnormal histology in testis from prepubertal boys with monorchidism
ConclusionsAlmost half of the patients with unilateral absent testis were at risk for subfertility or infertility. Our results emphasize the need for testicular biopsy of the solitary testis in boys with monorchidism to appropriately assess infertility risk. (Source: Basic and Clinical Andrology)

Does finasteride treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia influence sperm DNA integrity in dogs?
ConclusionIn conclusion, benign prostatic hyperplasia causes post-testicular sperm DNA damage, albeit finasteride treatment itself does not directly influence sperm DNA integrity. (Source: Basic and Clinical Andrology)

COVID-19 and andrology: Recommendations of the French-speaking society of andrology (Soci été d’Andrologie de langue Française SALF)
AbstractSARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) metamorphosed our medical practice. In early June 2020, more than 6,400,000 COVID-19 (coronavirus-19 disease) cases were diagnosed across the world and more than 380,000 deaths were linked to COVID-19. Many medical symptoms of COVID-19 were reported. We will focus, here, on potential impacts of COVID-19 on men ’s andrological health. Our society (French-speaking society of andrology, SALF) also emitted some recommendations in the andrological management of men infected by SARS-CoV-2. First, considering the fever and the potential presence of SARS-CoV2 i...

Hard flaccid syndrome: state of current knowledge
ConclusionHard-flaccid syndrome is poorly recognized in the daily clinical experience and not well defined. A multimodal approach seems so far the most efficient strategy for treatment. Additional evidence based studies with better quality are needed to define the exact pathophysiological mechanisms and subsequently more efficient therapeutic strategies. Alternative surgical approach for inflatable penile prosthesis removal
ConclusionOur approach provides direct exposure of all components of the IPP. It reduces the risk of urethral iatrogenic injury and the local fibrosis (which is greater with the penoscrotal incision) that may impair future reinsertion of IPP. It is simple, safe, reproducible and easy to be performed by junior or unexperienced urologists in urgent cases.
