Diversity of bacterial community in Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus L.) during storage is associated with the genotype and carbohydrates
In this study, the relationship between microbial community succession and changes in tuber carbohydrates during JA storage was revealed for the first time through the combination of high-throughput sequencing, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and high-performance ion-exchange chromatography (HPIC). Overall, the findings of this study are expected to provide new insights into the dynamics of microbial-crop interactions during storage. (Source: Frontiers in Microbiology)

Characterization of inulolytic enzymes from the Jerusalem artichoke-derived Glutamicibacter mishrai NJAU-1
Appl Microbiol Biotechnol. 2022 Jul 28. doi: 10.1007/s00253-022-12088-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rhizosphere context of inulin-accumulating plants, such as Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), is an ideal starting basis for the discovery of inulolytic enzymes with potential for bio fructose production. We isolated a Glutamicibacter mishrai NJAU-1 strain from this context, showing exo-inulinase activity, releasing fructose from fructans. The growth conditions (pH 9.0; 15 °C) were adjusted, and the production of inulinase by Glutamicibacter mishrai NJAU-1 increased by 90% (0.32 U/mL). Intriguingly, both lev...

Antiobesity Activity of Two Polyherbal Formulations in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese C57BL/6J Mice
Biomed Res Int. 2022 May 11;2022:9120259. doi: 10.1155/2022/9120259. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTObesity and overweight have posed a severe threat to humanity, needing urgent efforts for the development of safe and effective therapeutic interventions. In this research work, we have developed two polyherbal formulations A and B basically consisting of Helianthus tuberosus root powder (also called inulin of synanthrin) along with other herbs for the treatment of obesity. Evaluation of the antioxidant activity of both formulations using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic ac...

Pretreatment of Jerusalem artichoke stalk using hydroxylammonium ionic liquids and their influences on 2,3-butanediol fermentation by Bacillus subtilis
Bioresour Technol. 2022 Apr 22:127219. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2022.127219. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPretreatment of lignocellulose is a vital step for biological production of bio-chemicals and bio-fuels. In this work, the pretreatment of Jerusalem artichoke stalk (JAS) by hydroxylammonium ionic liquids was evaluated based on pretreatment efficiency including polysaccharide recovery and enzymatic digestibility, and influence of ionic liquids on 2,3-butanediol fermentation using Bacillus subtilis. The results showed ethanolammonium acetate (EOAA) was efficient in JAS pretreatment, and maximum cell density was increase...
